Clark County increases salaries to first-year teachers
Thinking about becoming a teacher? Thinking about moving to Las Vegas?
Faced with almost 1,000 teaching vacancies this fall, the Clark County School District is offering an additional $3,000 per year plus a $2,000 signing bonus to all first-year teachers.
First-year teachers will now start at $33,000. Five years ago, rookie teachers began at $26,000.
Clark County has been having a difficult time keeping teachers, too: of the 16,000 teachers in the district, half have been teaching more than five years.
In an effort to keep more teachers from leaving, this fall Clark County will be giving all teachers a 4 percent raise.
The average teacher salary for Nevada last year was $43,500.
