2007 World Series of Poker Begins Friday Noon

2007 World Series of Poker
Its all happening in the Rio's Pavilion starting tomorrow

Today's big news in Las Vegas is the WSOP scheduled to get underway on Friday at Noon for a 7 week run at the Rio Resort. I spent part of Wednesday afternoon with the 30 plus people that make up the [link removed].com reporting team, the official news of the 2007 WSOP. The first, and probably only mass meeting of veteran poker scribes and interns, was quite impressive with the quality and depth of talent of the hand selecterd group. Readers are assured of receiving the best, most complete coverage of any poker event in the recorded history of mankind.

Harrah's Entertainment has implemented many improvements to make this the best World Series of Poker ever. More Flipchip pre-WSOP photos direct from the floor of the Rio Pavilion after the jump...

Harrah's to develop virtual concierge with Microsoft's surface computing technology

surfacecomputing.jpg

Coming soon to Harrah's: a virtual concierge.

Today, Microsoft announces the creation of surface computing -- a touch-based computer/coffee table that eliminates the use of keyboard and mouse and instead uses voice, pen, and touch recognition.

The 30-inch acrylic display sits atop a 2-foot-tall table that recognizes and interacts with certain objects placed on it, such as cell phones and digital cameras.

The virtual table will pull photos from the camera and display them onscreen, where the user can move around the pictures with their fingers -- including stretching and shrinking with the motion of a finger.

And not just one user, either. Multiple users can access the computer simultaneously, perfect for use as an interactive map, restaurant and show reservations, and Internet surfing at Harrah's. A Total Rewards card placed on the table might instantly recognize you and book hotel rooms or load free slotplay to your account.

Priced between $5,000 and $10,000, Microsoft expects a consumer version available in 3-5 years.

A custom version is expected to debut at Harrah's Las Vegas casinos in November.

Slot manufacturer IGT has also teamed with Microsoft to create community gaming using the virtual table.

Lindsay Lohan crashes car, arrested on DUI

lohancar.jpg

Getting to be a habit like last year at this time, Lindsay Lohan again crashed her Mercedes (pictured above) into a tree this Memorial Day weekend and was arrested on a DUI and suspicion of possessing cocaine (the drug, not the energy drink). We don't mind her hard partying ways and at least palm trees are her target instead of people, but maybe someone needs to teach her how to drive?

Pure nightclub (Caesars Palace) is hosting Lohan's 21st birthday on July 2 and 3. Yes, in these days of corporate sponsorship of celebrity birthdays, why not milk two days for the birthday girl? That's like a 2-for-1 coupon.

Both Caesars and Svedka Vodka are rumored to be spending $1 million for the privilege of having their names attached to the party, but could Lohan be spending her 21st in jail or rehab (where she was last seen in January)?

Svedka isn't taking any chances and pulled out sponsorship on the party girl.

As for whether the birthday will go on, rehab's only 30 days and she -- and her car -- would be out just in time.

The Osmonds to stage 50th anniversary at The Orleans

With an estimated $150+ million that Michael Jackson reportedly wanted, he may have priced him and his family out of ever performing in Las Vegas.

But another performing family will be in town Aug. 13-14.

The Osmonds (including Donny and Marie) will take to the stage in what began as a tribute to the Brothers Osmond but expanded to include everyone.

This marks the 50th anniversary of their entertainment career, and PBS will tape a television special, to air in March 2008.

Tickets run between $75 and $125 and are not yet available.

Donny Osmond alone can be seen June 21-24 at The Orleans from $55 to $94. Tickets can be purchased online at The Orleans.

Binion's to be sold again?

flipchip photo lasvegasvegas.com
Binion's Las Vegas
Binion's in Downtown Las Vegas

Downtown casino stalwart Binion's Gambling Hall and Hotel continues to hemorrhage money, posting a loss of $682,000 in cash flow for the first quarter of 2007. Last year at this time, they posted a loss of $609,000.

First quarter net revenue was $15.1 million, down from $16.5 million at this time last year.

After Harrah's bought Binion's in 2004 (for the World Series of Poker and Horseshoe trademarks), they flipped it and sold it for $20 million to West Virginia racetrack company MTR Gaming.

MTR recently sold their Speedway Casino in North Las Vegas for $18.2 million.

We've long heard rumors that owners MTR Gaming is looking to get out of Las Vegas altogether, and the latest is that the Landry's restaurant chain (who also owns downtown casino Golden Nugget) may be interested in taking Binion's off MTR's hands.

This hasn't been a good time for downtown casinos, which more and more are worth less than what 1 acre of land is going for just a couple miles south.

Brandon Flowers Interview

brandonflowers.jpg

Check out Talking to a Killer: Brandon Flowers which is a geat piece by JamBase.com with The Killers frontman. Flowers had plenty of interesting quotes such as:

"People are lost in Las Vegas, but it's not their fault. The radio market is getting a little better. I think there is a new station there now. It just seemed like everyone was really behind. Everybody was still doing Limp [Bizkit] and Korn within the clubs. I mean if that is what is in your heart and you love it, then so be it."

"As far as America goes, my whole trip lately has been to get as far away from hipster culture as I can. I don't want to be cool to those kids."

"I am not a hipster and I am not trying to be. I believe there is nothing wrong with writing good songs, and I think that is what has been lost in all of this. People are either trying to be too cool or they are worried about just selling records."

Plise Cos. plans $2 billion mixed-use project in Henderson

plise.jpg

Another mixed-use project is being planned for Las Vegas. Now that the W is cancelled, we're skittish of hearing about the next city-within-a-city, but this one looks likely because the company behind it already has a solid footing with properties-in-progress around town.

Plise Companies., a local commercial real estate firm, plans a $2 billion, 126-acre project about 10 miles south of the Strip in Henderson called City Crossing.

It's slated to include 27 buildings of office, retail, hotel, and residential space with restaurants, parks, and trails -- all sprawled across 6 million square feet.

The first phase is scheduled to open in 2009 with a boutique hotel, residential units, and 100,000 square feet of retail.

The remainder is expected to be ready by 2014.

Plise already has the Rainbow Sunset Pavilion and Centennial Corporate Center in the works.

Towbin told to take down flag

towbinhummer.jpg

Every couple days (on our way to Hash House a Go Go or Hooters), we drive by Towbin Hummer, a name made famous by Josh Towbin who appears as the Chopper in the "King of Cars" TV show and commercials "chopping" prices.

Next to the building, owned by his father Dan Towbin, is a large 30x60-foot flag flying 100 feet in the air.

Apparently some neighbors have complained about the flag during windy days, when it noisily flaps around. They've also complained about the size of the flagpole. They're now ordering him to take it down.

Towbin says the flag shows his patriotism, but his neighbors say he's exploiting it for commercialism.

We support Towbin and think this is going a little too far. We can think of several other nearby businesses that have flags, and one particular beverage company to the south actually has a 9/11 memorial. Is that using patriotism for financial gain?

Kirk Kerkorian interested in Bellagio and Project CityCenter

Could another private investor buyout be in the works... this time from billionaire Kirk Kerkorian?

Kerkorian already owns 56 percent of MGM Mirage and, through his investment company Tracinda Corp., is looking at ways to restructure the remaining portion, starting with possibly purchasing Bellagio and the Project CityCenter, MGM's flagship properties that are valued at $10 billion each.

Just the speculation was enough to drive up shares of MGM Mirage a whopping 16 percent in after-hours trading from $62.95 (up 15 cents yesterday) to $73.25.

"Hell's Kitchen" lands at Green Valley Ranch

The popular Gordon Ramsay cooking reality show "Hell's Kitchen" returns to FOX for a third season on June 4 at 9 p.m.

Last season, 12 chefs were whittled down to one, Heather West, who won the executive chef position of the Terra Rossa restaurant at Red Rock Casino before moving to senior chef of the T-Bones Chophouse & Lounge restaurant, also at Red Rock.

This time, chefs will be at Green Valley Ranch where they'll compete for a head chef position at a new Italian restaurant, which will replace Il Fornaio at GVR.

Magician Nathan Burton to freeze himself in block of ice

nathanburtonbox.jpg

Magician Nathan Burton (recently seen on "America's Got Talent") will promote his show and the new Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood by encasing himself in a block of ice.

Beginning today, an M-shaped ice sculpture will be displayed at the north Strip entrance to the Miracle Mile Shops.

Inside will be Burton accompanied with a revolving group of four showgirls each.

The sculpture weighs 10 tons and contains 10-inch thick walls. It can stay intact for three days in 100-degree weather.

He will be in the ice for 24 hours and released Tuesday at 10 a.m. when workers break through the ice to rescue Burton in time for him to rest up for his two shows on Wednesday afternoon.

Last year, Burton was locked in a glass box with seven different showgirls for seven days. We walked by in the middle of the night, saw the box hanging in the old Desert Passage at Aladdin, and he looked wide awake with showgirls chatting on cell phones.

We found a craigslist ad for the girls, or rather "sexy ladies with great attitudes." They receive $45 per one-hour shift. Not bad for hanging out in frozen water.

Angel Jilts Driver for Diaz in Sin City

angeldiaz.jpg

London newspaper The Daily Mail is reporting that Oscar-nominated actress Minnie Driver's fiance has, in a rather public manner, left her for Cameron Diaz.

TV magician Criss Angel was spotted canoodling with Diaz at Bellagio's Prime Steakhouse on Monday evening. They departed for the Mirage in Angel's Rolls-Royce and took in the Cirque de Soleil show "Love." The two were wrapping up a long weekend in Sin City, where they attended the VH1 Rock Honors and partied later that night with Drew Barrymore at the Mirage's nightclub, Jet.

This is the third public romantic jilting for poor Minnie. In 1997 Matt Damon dumped her on-air during an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show, and in 2001 her relationship with Josh Brolin imploded only six months after getting engaged.

Diaz has seen her own share of public breakups as well, having split from Justin Timberlake in January.

Angel and Driver announced their engagement in September 2006.

Protestors and monkey rally outside Harry Reid office

surrendermonkey.jpg

Yesterday, over a dozen protestors and a monkey showed up outside the office of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Wait... a monkey?

The monkey was brought in by Move America Forward as a symbol of what the protestors call Reid a "surrender monkey." The real monkey (pictured above) was waving a white surrender flag and rode a monkey scooter.

Protestors present for the rally were on both sides of the issue, and it's clear who the monkey was for, but we suspect the monkey would be loyal to whomever had a banana.

Move America Forward is a not-for-profit organization supporting the effort to defeat terrorism and supporting our troops.

Michael Jackson to appear in court today

If you want to catch a Michael Jackson sighting in Las Vegas, head directly to court.

Jackson will be appearing today to dispute he and his family own some of the items that Universal Express purchased at a bankruptcy auction. Universal Express intends to auction off all the items themselves at Hard Rock on May 30 and 31.

You can see some of the thousands of items that Jackson will be sifting through by visiting Universal Express.

The items (such as the rack of clothing pictured above) are worth in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Or $0, if Jackson is successful in court.

Transportation Workers of America in at Wynn

flipchip photo lasvegasvegas.com
051707-30.jpg
Wynn Las Vegas

Dealers at the Wynn Las Vegas voted May 11th to unionize in a landslide, 444 to 149 in favor of representation by the Transportation Workers of America according to organizer Dennis Laux. The weekend election was sanctioned by the National Labor Relations Board and begins the process of establishing a union to represent the employees in labor contract negotions.

More after the jump...

Months in the Making

In September the Wynn Resort sought to correct the dealer bosses' pay from the upside down model where dealers made $100,000 while their boss earned $65,000. To accomplish this Wynn management included lower level bosses to share in the dealers' tip pool. This tip pool redistribution plan jumped the bosses close to $100,000 while cutting dealers earnings by as much as 20%. According to Steve Wynn, he had not grasped the gravity of this error until just prior to his last minute meetings with the dealers.

Wynn's Hail Mary

In an unusual move, Steve Wynn rushed the processes to bring about a vote as quickly as possible, even delivering his last minute speech's in person to the hundreds of Wynn dealers. In his impassioned pleas he pointed out that the tip-sharing mistake was his alone. Wynn stressed that unionizing would be a far more serious mistake, damaging the mega-resorts ability to quickly adjust and respond to the ever-shifting landscape of the Las Vegas casino industry. The Transport Workers Union of America , Wynn went on to say, "know nothing about our business."

Enter the Transport Workers Union of America (TWU)

The TWU won a major victory with almost three quarters of dealers voting for the union to represent their collective interests when sitting at teh bargaining table negotiating the labor pact. The next step in this unionization process will be the dealers under union guidance electing their officers that will then negotiate a dealers labor contract with the Wynn Las Vegas.

A Little TWU History

This isn't the first time Tthe Transporation Workers of America have won an election to represent Las Vegas dealere. In 2001 union organizers successfully petitioned thirteen strip properties for elections to have represenation by the TWU. They lost ten, with only three low-end properties voting to unionize and only one, the New Frontier, actually reaching a final contract.

If the TWU can successfully regain the dealers lost income and avoid becoming a financial liability themselves, then this turn of events could usher in a new era of how Las Vegas treats workers. Dealer unions have never worked in the volatile Las Vegas casino business and will have to prove themselves capable of being an asset instead of just another liability, otherwise they'll find themselves quickly de-certified and heading out of town.

The film will costar Ashton Kutcher and revolves around the consequences after a night of drunkeness in Las Vegas when they find themselves married to each other. Sounds like it could be the Britney Spears story, only it's a romantic comedy.

It's written by Dana Fox (The Wedding Date) and will be directed by Julian Farino, best known for directing episodes of "Entourage" and "Big Love."

$50 off JetBlue flights

TB_voucher.jpg

JetBlue is our airline of choice when shuttling between Las Vegas and California even if their hub is Long Beach, but it's rarely crowded and away from the hustle and bustle of LAX.

Of all the airlines, JetBlue seems genuinely friendly, letting us have seconds from their giant basket of treats (we go with the blue chips and chocolate chip cookie).

And nothing passes the time like watching satellite television, which is available for free at every leather seat.

If you're in one of JetBlue's cities, you can try them out to visit our fine neon city and you'll get a $50 electronic voucher to use in the fall.

The offer expires June 1, and you must travel before June 15.

To book your trip, visit jetblue.com/get50.

Manhattan Plaza Hotel coming to Las Vegas?

nyplaza.jpg

The Wall Street Journal just broke the story that later today, ELAD Properties plans to announce a $5 billion mixed-use project on the Strip by 2011.

ELAD purchased the 34.5 acres that the New Frontier Hotel & Casino currently stands on and once completed would compete neck-and-neck with Donald Trump's condo-hotel.

Last year, ELAD purchased New York's Plaza Hotel (pictured above) for $675 million and plunked another $350 million in improvements. They plan to extend the brand to Las Vegas and around the world.

We already have The Plaza downtown just a couple miles north... is there room for two?

So you're going to Las Vegas for a convention?

If your company is like my company, then they have noticed that Vegas is the new hot spot for corporate conventions. Because the attendees are so profitable for the Vegas economy, convention specials have been "an offer you can't refuse" for businesses. So you may find yourself traveling to "convention city" in the near future.

"Very soon" you say? Well then, here are some tips if you are traveling on business to Las Vegas.

#1: UNDERSTAND your corporate travel policies!!! Its obvious to some people they can not expense receipts from the Crazy Horse, but you also need to know your dinner limits and rules regarding the magical and enticing category of "Misc" (see also 'spa services'). If you bring a spouse or another traveler, even at the risk of embarrassment, get separate checks.

#2: SHOWS are a two headed coin. They are great and they are expensive. In a very general sense, book in advance and guarantee the best seat and the worst price. Book via hotel specials and ticket links (often on this site) and get access to better deals. And if a big name comic is doing a special engagement, you can be sure that it is special and that it will be a great show.

#3 Stay at the best hotel your company will tolerate. If the convention is at the RIO, that is another matter. You stay at the RIO. But if it's on the strip, staying one hotel over isn't going to make you late. Personally, I like to stay at a hotel with a starbucks or other brand name coffee outlet in the main floor casino area. Otherwise, you can't get a decent cup of coffee. Expect to wait in line for it too, as the scarcity makes it all the more popular.

#4 Comfortable Shoes!!! Half of this nation has lousy weather. If you are lucky enough to be in Vegas when the weather is 78 degrees, it's a wonderful walk up and down the strip. Assuming you have the shoes for it.

#5 Bring your best swimsuit. The pools are the height of luxury in Vegas. You can eat, gamble and wade all at the same time. Some hotels have 3 or more pools for your specialized and segmented pleasure. But remember, no speedos please.

#6 PRE-DETERMINE your casino gambling money and keep it separate at all times. If it runs out, then you are done. Period. Proceed to #5 (the pool). If you are winning, resist the urge to gamble on the last day when you have a plane later in the day, and at 4am, a time that most people make bad decisions.

#7 Remember your favorite spots! Mine are the Hoffbrau House (German Sausage and Beer!) across from the Hard Rock and Cafe Fuente (Cuban cigar lounge in the forum shops). Its nice to have 1 or 2 repeat spots to visit on subsequent trips. Skip the restaurant chains you can visit at home.

#8 Strip clubs and the like are for bachelor parties and to visit the more carnal locations inside that brain of yours. They can be enjoyed in moderation UNLESS you are there with other people from your company. In which case, do not even be caught talking about going.
NOTE: If you are in sales, ignore #8.

#9 Don't rent a car. When you arrive, check the cab stands and the shuttle stands. Pick the one with the shorter line. Go to hotel. Pat yourself on the back for not paying $20 / day for parking.

#10 Remember you are not on vacation. You are on business and you have the benefits of sneaking in a little R&R each day. You can always come back for a weekend on your own dime.

Now get to work!

Flipchip has been spending time at the Rio Resort in Las Vegas preparing for the upcoming 2007 World Series of Poker. It is rumored that a poker game broke out on one of the floats last year.

Bobby Darin receives star on Las Vegas Walk of Stars

Yesterday, Bobby Darin was memorialized with the 19th star on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars, located right outside the Flamingo.

Darin, who would have been 71 yesterday, performed often in Las Vegas, including the Flamingo (pictured above on a Flamingo promotional postcard).

His hits include "Mack the Knife," "Splish Splash," "Dream Lover," and "Beyond the Sea."

The Las Vegas Walk of Stars is a four-mile stretch of sidewalk on the east and west side of the Strip. Recent inductees include Sammy Davis, Jr., Siegfried & Roy, Rich Little, Liberace, and Wayne Newton, who sings his own rendition of Darin's "Danke Schoen."

The star is a three-foot square slab of polished granite weighing 180 pounds. Enough space is allocated for 3,000 stars.

Bouncing money orders at North Las Vegas stores

Living in transient Las Vegas, check-cashing businesses are accustomed to being wary of customers carrying checks that may bounce.

But vice versa? Usually there isn't any concern over trusting the check-cashing business itself.

Six money transfer stores in Las Vegas called Mazzz Dinero Rapido, however, are now under investigation for providing customers multiple money orders that have been bouncing all over the city with insufficient funds.

A trip back to Mazzz Dinero shows it's closed up shop rapido. Notices posted in the store windows state: "Due to technical and financial irresolvable situations, this office is permanently closed."

The sign continues with a place to request a claim, at an address in a UPS Store post office box in a Green Valley Ranch shopping center at Windmill and Pecos -- 2657 Windmill Pkwy. #256, Henderson, NV 89074-3384.

If we need money orders, we will continue sticking with Western Union and the post office.

Wynn Dealers Vote to Unionize

flipchip photo lasvegasvegas.com
Wynn Las Vegas votes for union
Wynn Las Vegas stands above earlier Steve Wynn resort creations

Dealers at the Wynn Las Vegas chose unionization in a landslide, 444 to 149 in favor of representation by the Transportation Workers of America according to organizer Dennis Laux. The weekend election was sanctioned by the National Labor Relations Board.

Dealers reported that Steve Wynn held three mandatory meetings with dealers before the election and reportedly told the groups he had made "a big mistake" in allowing supervisors to share in the dealers' tip pool. Wynn's plea to reject the union fell on ears deafened by the 15 - 20% paycuts forced on the angry dealers.

Neonopolis becomes Fremont Square

Lights are going out at Neonflopolis

From the "Our local politicians are dumber than your local politicians" file.

Neonopolis is no more. The ill fated, expensive venue at the east end of the Fremont Street Experience will now be called Fremont Square even though it is not a square nor is it close to a square. Everyone in Vegas knew the place was a loser (locals quickly labeled it Neonflopolis), and now the keepers of the city believe the name change will be the lifeline that keeps it afloat.

The Fremont Street Experience light canopy was the original political solution to the failing downtown scene. As seen here it continues to attract thousands of tourist for the nightly light and sound shows

20 percent off BOA and Sushi Roku for locals

flipchip photo lasvegasvegas.com
Forum shopping at Caesars Palace
BOA and Sushi Roku are on the third level of the Forum above the reflecting pool

We're big fans of this pair of restaurants, and with the summer discount, we just might set up a pup tent in the backroom.

At the entrance to the Caesars Palace Forum Shops (the other end of the casino) is Sushi Roku and BOA Steakhouse.

Both have outdoor seating with stunning views of the Strip and offer all the decadence you could desire... with cocktails to match.

From June 1 through Aug. 31, lunch and dinner is 20 percent off for locals.

Just show your Nevada I.D. when you order, and don't forget to tip on the amount before the discount.

Sushi Roku was recently named "Best Japanese" at the 2007 Epicurean Awards from Las Vegas Life magazine. It's headed by sushi chef Kiichi Okabe. Last time we were at Sushi Roku, we had the delicious wasabi-encrusted sea bass topped with the chocolate volcano souffle for dessert.

BOA Steakhouse won "Best New Restaurant on the Strip" at the 2006 Epicurean Awards and won "Best Cocktails" the past two years. It's headed by chef Jose Aleman. Last time we were at BOA, we had the Kobe beef with foie gras. We had no room for dessert but now have a reason to go back.

The restaurants are open Sunday-Thursday from noon to 10 p.m. and Friday-Saturday from noon to midnight.

To make a reservation, call (702) 733-7373.

For sale: W Las Vegas

W_las_Vegas_Front_P.jpg
Illustration by Art & Design Studios

The W Las Vegas resort, expected to cover almost 50 acres at Harmon and Koval (between the backs of Planet Hollywood and Hard Rock), has been cancelled.

With Starwood Hotel (which owns the Westin Casuraina just up the street on Flamingo) dropping out and with rising construction costs, developer Edge Group was unable to continue with its plan.

That plan would have been mammoth, spanning across $2.5 billion of mixed-use hotel-condos, two casinos (including the space that was formerly George Clooney's Las Ramblas), and multiple restaurants, nightclubs, and stores.

With Strip and near-Strip land going for an unprecedented amount, flipping the land could run between $15-20 million per acre.

Las Vegas Convention Center to get $890 million upgrade

The Las Vegas Convention Center has been given a unaninmous go-ahead approval for an $890 million upgrade by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. The previous estimate was $737 million.

Without the costly upgrades, the eventual decline in business could end up costing the Convention Center $5 billion and 9 million potential attendees.

Work is expected to begin next year with the majority completed in 2010 and 2011.

Trade show business is a booming and competitive business, with the average person spending more than twice as much as the average tourist. In 2006, convention attendees spent $8.2 billion while visiting Las Vegas, and we're not even talking about gambling losses.

How much did Las Vegas casinos win from gamblers in 2006? $6.7 billion. That's $1.5 billion less than what was made from trade shows.

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker accused of pimping in Las Vegas

Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Richard Seigler is being accused of talking at least one woman into becoming a Las Vegas prostitute and then sharing some of her earnings.

While prostitution is legal in areas of Nevada such as Pahrump, it is illegal in Las Vegas.

Steelers management removed him from the practice squad after the warrant for his arrest.

Seigler was placed in jail on three counts of felonies and released on a $25,000 bond.

Born and raised in Las Vegas, Seigler attended Chaparral High School in the valley and then Oregon State (pictured above as team captain).

Helen Mirren Parties with P. Diddy

helen_pdiddy.jpg

The Venetian unveiled their latest hotsopt the Tao Beach, a new VIP lounge. It was perfect timing since there were plenty of stars in town checking out the De La Hoya and Mayweather fight.

Of course, in Las Vegas, you never know who you'll see partying like Helen Mirren and P. Diddy. Yes, Dame Mirren and the artist formerly known as P. Diddy.

Also spotted at the opening of Tao Beach were Will Ferrell, Lennox Lewis, 50 Cent, and that weird dude who plays Borat.

Tao Beach offers up several cabanas that are also VIP rooms with HD TVs, X Boxes, mini bar, and a personal masseuses. Here's what they boat on their website:

"Seven lavish cabanas offer the highest square-footage in town, each with its own HD plasma screen TV, DVD Player/X Box 360 and full DVD/Game library, internet access, private safe/storage, a custom stocked mini fridge, chilled luxury terry cloth towels, complimentary sandals and even pre-programmed i-Pod rentals. Get pampered by a staff of private masseuses, personal misters, tanning butlers, and specially formulated Canyon Ranch Spa treatments."

New multi-casino Bad Beat Jackpot at Harrah's

Taking a cue from Station Casinos, after a year of speculation and rumor, Harrah's has finally begun a multi-property Bad Beat Jackpot.

It will begin with not every casino in its collection and will also include a Laughlin property. Casinos participating are Harrah's Las Vegas, Flamingo, O'Sheas, Paris Las Vegas, Bally's, and Harrah's in Laughlin.

The progressive jackpot will begin at $50,000 and requires you to beat quad 10s. Like Station, the beat requirements will go down every week until it hits.

The loser of the hand receives 30 percent of the jackpot, the winner of the hand receives 20 percent, and the remaining 50 percent is split among all active poker players in all six poker rooms (also like Station).

Well, if Station can copy Harrah's tiered player's club cards, why not the other way around?

$60 tickets to Hoff-less The Producers

Poor Hoff.

You have two successful television shows talking to a car and running on the beach, you're a hit singer in Germany... haven't you earned the right to get trashed on the floor of your own home without your family taping and releasing it to the media?

Having been in that position more times than we can't remember, we sympathize with David Hasselhoff and throw shame at his ex-wife who must be reading the Kim Basinger book of how to win custody.

The Hoff recently ended his run this past weekend guest starring in the musical The Producers at Paris Las Vegas, though from the ads splashed everywhere including the airport, you'd think he was playing the lead.

With no bonafide Las Vegas-y celebrities in the show, the audience has taken a hit and some places are offering discounted tickets.

For $60 tickets, visit BroadwayBox.com and use code TMDEAL.

The discount is available through Oct. 15, but you may want to hurry because we don't expect the show to last that much longer.

Hours: Open 24 Hours
Admission: $20
Food: No
Parking: Valet service and a free parking lot on the side
ATM: Yes
Website: Crazy Horse Too
Myspace: Crazy Horse Too myspace page

Just off of I-15 and Sahara, The Crazy Horse Too is the legendary strip club where Jenna Jameson and Dita got their starts in the adult industry. It also happens to be one of the most popular strip clubs in the world.

More after the jump...

According to their website, "The Crazy Horse Too is filled with over 1,500 of the most exotic and sexy women in the world, which makes it no surprise why we've been a favorite to both locals and tourists for over 2 decades."

ch2.jpg

There are three different rooms at the Crazy Horse Too. The largest is the main area called Circus Maximus where there's a main bar and the cigar humidor along with stages and plenty of seating. There are two side rooms. The Emperor's Room is the VIP area which is designated for only you and the girl of your choice. Cleopatra's Lounge has an amazing sound system with another bar. it's my favorite place because it's off the Circus Maximus main area and happens to be less crowded with guests which means a better lot of girls to choose from.

Lapdances start at $20 and you have to consult with the dancers to get specific VIP rates.

The music is slanted towards the hip-hop side although the DJ plays some Top 40 and classic & hard rock.

Discounts: Some Las Vegas strip clubs offer free or reduced admission at the door for local residents. This varies depending on the establishment. If you are a local, show your Nevada's driver's license at the door to obtain your discount.

Interesting Trivia: In the film Ocean's Eleven, the strip club scenes were shot on location at Crazy Horse Too.

Cocaine pulled from shelves

cocaine.gif

Yesterday, Las Vegas-based beverage company Redux Beverages pulled its controversial energy drink called Cocaine.

Under notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for advertising the drink as a dietary supplement and street drug alternative, the drink would first have to be approved as a drug to continue being promoted the same way.

To avoid possible legal action, Redux withdrew the product from all stores across the country.

Plans are to market the drink under a new name.

We recommend not calling it Heroin.

A back pack left on top a car in the Luxor parking garage exploded when to men approached their car and one tried to remove the item. The man was critically burned and suffered head injuries later dying at a hospital in Las Vegas. Speculation is running rampart in the city as to the reason for the bomb and range from a completely random event to some kind of pre-mediated hit on the victim. It is being reported by the Associated Press that another man was injured when the bomb exploded. Both men apparently worked for the Luxor and knew each other.

Las Vegas Strip Club Tips

photos by flipchip • lasvegasvegas.com
Planet Hollywood
Girls of Glitter Gluch • Downtown Las Vegas

Here are some of my Las Vegas strip club tips:

1. Offer to buy a girl a drink, she might stay longer and sit on your lap.
2. Try to get a deal like 3 lap dances for the price of 2.
3. Never under any circumstances go to the VIP room.
4. Never call her a stripper. Use the term "dancer."
5. Only take enough money with you that you are willing to spend.
6. Order beers, not hard liquor. Some clubs might water down your drinks.
7. Don't fall in love. You cannot and will not rescue a stripper from a life of pole dancing. She has to do that herself.

HBO chair Chris Albrecht arrested for assault

For the past 5 years, HBO chair and CEO Chris Albrecht has overseen all operations of the largest premium cable television company.

Over the weekend, Albrecht oversaw a stay at the Clark County Detention Center.

The Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. match wasn't the only fight at the MGM Grand. A police spokesperson said that Albrecht was spotted in an alleged "physical confrontation" with a woman in the MGM Grand parking lot a few hours after the fight.

Metro responded and arrested Albrecht on suspicion of battery/domestic assault, which carries a misdemeanor.

As for the De La Hoya-Mayweather fight (which was broadcast on HBO), Mayweather won over a split decision.

Win the shirt on your back at Green Valley Ranch

Can't get rated at $5 per bet, you say?

Try Station Casinos.

Playing table games (blackjack, baccarat, pai gow, roulette, craps) at Green Valley Ranch, you can accumulate what's called scores in exchange for clothes to put on your back.

A score of 75 is awarded for the following average bet and time:

$5 average bet for 15 hours
$10 average bet for 7.5 hours
$15 average bet for 5 hours
$25 average bet for 3 hours
$50 average bet for 1.5 hours
$75 average bet for 1 hour

The dealers scan your card immediately and punch in your initial bet, so consider beginning with a larger bet and then drop down.

Your score can be redeemed throughout this month for entry tickets and the following:

75 = Henley long-sleeve shirt (5 tickets)
375 = Polo shirt (10 tickets)
750 = Jacket (20 tickets)

Tickets are ticketless and on your Boarding Pass card, and will go toward a drawing for a 42" Plasma TV.

The drawing takes place June 1 at 6:15 p.m. at the Turf Grill.

David Hasselhoff Drunk Video

Several entertainment TV outlets including Entertainment Tonight and Extra have obtained a video of David Hasselhoff lying on the floor of his Las Vegas residence in a drunken stupor.

In the video, a shirtless Hasselhoff unsuccessfully attempts to navigate a Wendy's double burger the short distance from the wrapper to his mouth while his 16-year old daughter Taylor pleads with him from behind the camera to stop drinking.

"If you get alcohol tonight, you're fired from your show tomorrow. And the doctor is coming over here in the morning to check your alcohol level, and if you have any alcohol in your system, you're going to be fired from the show. Tomorrow. Do you hear me? No alcohol...Thank God they're not coming tonight 'cause you'd be fired from the show."

Hasselhoff has a long history with the bottle, including a 2002 stint in the Betty Ford Center and a 2004 DUI. Last July he was thrown off a flight at Heathrow Airport in London for excessive intoxication. To top it all off, he filed for divorce from his wife, Debra 16 months ago.

Interestingly enough, the video is said to have been shot over three months ago, right around the time that Hasselhoff opened his much-publicized run in The Producers, now playing at Paris Las Vegas. Hasselhoff, however will be leaving the show this weekend not because he's a crazy durnk trainwreck of a man, but ostensibly to return to his TV show "America's Got Talent." At least that's what the publicists are saying.

MTV plans to stir up their 24th annual Video Music Awards, beginning with moving its venue to The Palms in Las Vegas.

The music network also hopes to stretch the show across three nights to showcase new talent and to feature the casino-hotel, straying away from the standard stage award format.

Instead, awards will take place at non-stage locations from the suites to the rooftop to the pool.

The show will broadcast live from The Palms on Sept. 9 ET. The live version will only be broadcast once; reruns will be remixed selections chosen by viewers.

A memorable VMA segment once showed a controversial kiss between Britney Spears and Madonna. We're looking forward to seeing what MTV has in store this year.

Britney Spears to perform secretly at House of Blues this weekend

Psst... Britney Spears is getting back into shape by performing secret, unadvertised shows at various House of Blues clubs.

A couple nights ago, she performed five songs at the House of Blues in San Diego. The brief show lasted 13 minutes and is advertised on the HoB site as The M+Ms.

With Las Vegas being one of her favorite cities, it only makes sense that she'd appear at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay.

And that brief show looks to be May 6 at 8 p.m.

Tickets are available through Ticketmaster (search for "M&Ms" -- note the ampersand) and are priced at $60 with a four-ticket maximum.

Bette Midler to take over for Celine Dion in 2008

Caesars Palace has announced Bette Midler as Celine Dion's successor when Dion ends her lucrative 5-year contract performing to sold-out houses and grossing some $500 million.

In a two-year contract, Midler will perform 100 shows a year, alternating with Elton John who will continue his 50 shows per year. This is 60 shows less than Dion, leaving speculation that Caesars will seek one more entertainer such as Cher.

Dion continues through Dec. 15, and the theater will then be redone to suit Midler's show, which will begin Feb. 20, 2008.

Tickets, priced comparably to Dion, will be available for purchase at the end of today via Ticketmaster or at 1-877-7BETTEM.

The Jersey Boys joins The Palazzo for 2008

The theater much less the casino itself won't open until next year, but Tony-Award winning musical The Jersey Boys will be at The Palazzo, the new $1.8 billion neighboring casino resort-hotel to The Venetian.

Inspired by the life of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, The Jersey Boys has been performing to sold-out audiences on Broadway since it opened in 2005.

Much like Mamma Mia!, the musical takes popular songs such as "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Oh What a Night," "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You," "Walk Like a Man," and fashions them into a storyline.

The show, with book by Marshall Briockman and Rick Elice and lyrics by Bob Crewe, features music by Bob Gaudio and will be directed by Des McAnuff, who brought The Who's Tommy to stage.
