Cameron Diaz, Ashton Kutcher seeking extras tonight

rainnightclub.jpg

So if you happen to be catching the Marilyn Manson show and mosey on over to Rain (pictured above from their Halloween party over the weekend), you could run into Cameron Diaz.

Along with costar Ashton Kutcher, Diaz stars in the upcoming movie What Happens in Vegas... and is filming all this week around town... including Rain.

If you'd like to be an extra, WildStreak Talent International is seeking men and women from 21 to 45 to be in a background party scene tonight. Shoot an email to wildstreakt@aol.com or call (702) 252-8382 and leave your name, phone, and age range.

We hear Diaz has been partying it up in Vegas. She's been with Justin Timberlake, Kelly Slater, Bradley Cooper, and Criss Angel.

You could be next!

Godskitchen's Halloween with DJ Roger Sanchez

godskitchen.jpg

Okay, just a couple more Halloween events to wash the pain away. You'd think a place like Las Vegas would be like Halloween every night, eh?

Godskitchen presents its own Halloween party tonight with DJ Roger Sanchez at Body English (Hard Rock) beginning at 10 p.m.

Tickets are $20, which include a costume contest with a prize pool of $15,000 and an open bar from 10:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

To purchase, visit this link.

Robert Goulet dead at 73

Las Vegas local Robert Goulet has passed away.

Since the end of last month, the 73-year-old singer had been in Los Angeles' Cedar-Sinai Medical Center with a diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis, a rare and often fatal condition requiring a lung transplant.

For years, Newton had performed many shows in old Las Vegas (Desert Inn, the Frontier), where he also married Vera Novak in 1982.

Over his decades-long career that spanned 60 music albums, Goulet won a Tony, an Emmy, and a Grammy. He was best known for playing Sir Lancelot in the Broadway musical Camelot.

Paris Hilton hosts Halloween party at LAX

parishiltonlax.jpg

Tomorrow night for Halloween, Paris Hilton hosts a costume party at LAX (the new nightclub at Luxor).

Prizes from a pool of $20,000 will be awarded to those with the sexiest or scariest costume (for the latter, we wonder about dressing up as David Copperfield - we joke, we joke!).

The party begins at 10 p.m. and you must be at least 21.

For more information, call (702) 280-3600.

Hilton will be back at LAX with her sister Nicky to bring in the New Year.

David Copperfield reportedly investigated for rape and assault

It isn't looking good for illusionist David Copperfield, especially if you've become a target on the relentless (but addicting) TMZ.com.

TMZ has two more women who've stepped forward to describe Copperfield's techniques to pick up girls. One sent a voicemail to the celebrity gossip site with Copperfield heard inviting her to come to his $50 million private island estate in the Bahamas.

A federal grand jury is looking into allegations that Copperfield allegedly raped, threatened, and assaulted a Seattle woman after bringing her to his island on Musha Cay in July 2007.

No criminal charges or indictment has been made.

The FBI has reportedly been involved because of the possible crime that took place outside the country.

The earlier media reports of $2 million being removed from Copperfield's warehouse were later denied by the FBI.

As they were apparently the only two on the island, this could end up being a he-said, she-said. Unless an O.J. Simpson-like sting was set up to lure Copperfield into paying a $2 million bribe to keep her quiet. But that's entirely speculation. Don't we all keep $2 million laying around in our warehouses?

Using his show to get girls, however, isn't any more creepy than any aging rock star picking up chicks at his concert.

Copperfield has cancelled performances outside of the country but is still scheduled to appear Nov. 15-28 at the Hollywood Theatre at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The Nose, as we affectionately call him, appears live tonight on "Dancing with the Stars."

Barry Manilow, at residence at the Las Vegas Hilton, will perform three songs: "They Dance," "Mandy," and "My Eyes Adored You."

The popular reality show airs on ABC.

If you forget to TiVo, tune in online tomorrow at ABC, where you'll be able to catch it streamed online for free, along with the past 11 episodes.

We love the Internet.

Criss Angel hosts Halloween party, performs live on "Phenomenon"

crissangelphenomenon.jpg

Tomorrow night, Oct. 30, Criss Angel hosts a Haunted Halloween party with the sexiest or scariest costume winning part of a $20,000 prize pool. (Would dressing up as Angel be considered sexy or scary?)

The party begins at 10 p.m. at PURE (Caesars Palace).

Angel, soon to appear in his own Cirque Du Soleil illusion-heavy show at Luxor (the MGM Mirage brass can't be too happy with him at a competing Harrah's property, though he was probably contractually obligated in advance to his Luxor deal), can currently be seen on the NBC show "Phenomenon," an adaptation of an Israeli show airing live every Wednesday for the next 7 weeks.

Angel and mentalist Uri Geller (the spoon-bending guy) judge performers to find the next great illusionist.

We caught the premiere, and while we appreciate Angel's brutal honesty in lambasting performers (including local mentalist Gerry McCambridge on loan from Hooters), we did find it a little self-serving when he mentioned he'd done similar acts with more dangerous props.

Still, we're looking forward to the Halloween night two-hour special, when Angel is scheduled to perform live.

Sapphire hosts Halloween party "Fantasy Nightmare"

sapphirehalloween.jpg

Sapphire Gentlemen's Club (3025 Industrial Rd.) hosts a Fantasy Nightmare for Halloween.

And no, it's not named that just because Gary Dell'Abate from the Howard Stern show will be emceeing.

Beginning at 11 p.m. on Oct. 31, Sapphire will offer a sexiest costume contest (we presume the less costume the better) with a $1000 cash prize, along with drink specials and something called "Shake Your Booo T," which we're afraid to ask about.

For more information, call (702) 796-6000.

"LA Ink" star Kat Von D to sign autographs

Kat-Von-D-profile.jpg

Tattoo artist extraordinaire Kat Von D (pictured above), featured with her High Voltage Tattoo shop on "LA Ink," will be at the SEMA show this week.

If you're in town for the automotive industry convention (at the Convention Center from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2), stop by the Dunlop Tires booth to meet Kat on Oct. 30 beginning at 11 a.m., with autograph signings from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

You can also fill out an online application, where you could land an appearance on "LA Ink" getting a tattoo from Kat herself!

Happy Nevada Day

nevadaday51.jpg

Happy Nevada Day!

Ah, Nevada, you barely look 100.

Today marks the state's 143rd birthday since Nevada entered the Union (actually Oct. 31, but celebrated the last Friday of every October).

We didn't get the day off, but some schools, some banks, state, county, municipal, and court offices are closed.

Carson City will be the place tomorrow for the annual parade, whose theme is "Mysteries of Nevada: Area 51."

Other events include a carnival, chili feed, pancake breakfast, battle of the bands, the always-popular drilling contest, a ghost walk, fireworks, and much more.

For more information, visit this link!

Toll roads in Las Vegas?

As a way to alleviate congestion without raising gas prices, I-15 is frequently targeted by the Nevada Department of Transportation as a candidate for toll roads, which could be used as an express lane if drivers chose to avoid traffic.

Nevada legislature shot down the proposal this year but is working on revisiting it next year.

The tolls would be outside the bounds of Las Vegas and focused on visitors.

Vegoose performers to webcast live streaming

vegooselandscape.jpg

Psst... if you can't make it to Vegoose this weekend (all the cool people are going), you can catch it online tomorrow and Sunday live at this link, thanks to AT&T.

We knew there was a reason we put up with our "No Service" reception.

Because of the vastness of the annual Halloween festival and contractual stipulations, they'll only be able to stream select bands, some of which include Cypress Hill, Spearhead, The Shins, Thievery Corporation, Mastodon, and more.

Normally closed to the public, Nfusion Home Furnishings (a boutique furniture company with an Asian influence) holds a free Open House for a VIP list for Vegas4Locals readers. You'll also have an opportunity to buy furniture for wholesale.

Land once expected for Ivana Trump condo purchased

Without any major press coverage, Steven Johnson has quietly purchased a two-acre parcel at the north end of the Strip, what was once going to be the Ivana Trump condo.

Formerly the site of the Holy Cow Casino, the corner is opposite the Sahara and Stratosphere casinos.

And in a few years, it'll also be in spitting distance of the new MGM Mirage project scheduled after Project CityCenter.

Johnson, 58, an Arizona businessman who lives in Scottsdale, has no immediate plans for the site for which he paid $47 million, but it's zoned for gaming should he decide to apply for a casino license.

Free and 2-for-1 tickets to impressionist Larry G. Jones

2For1MyspacecouponWEB.jpg

Larry G. Jones has performed over 1,500 shows in Las Vegas, mostly downtown, and we would put his show up against any of the comedy shows on the Strip -- including Danny Gans.

Jones is a one-man impressionist known as the Man of 1002 Voices, which includes an abundance of singers. We caught his show a couple years ago and we laughed so hard we forgot about how much we lost in blackjack.

To celebrate, Jones is offering free tickets to all past and present and enlisted Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Reservers, firefighters, and police.

To book in advance, visit his site or call 1-800-595-4849. There's a $3 processing fee.

You can also print the above coupon (click here for a larger version) we also found on his site for 2-for-1 tickets.

Shows run at 9 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays at the showroom upstairs at Fitzgeralds in downtown Las Vegas.

"Viva Laughlin" cashes out

vivalaughlin.jpg

Karaoke may work in reality television, but as part of a scripted series, it just doesn't click.

That's not for lack of Hollywood trying.

Similar to Steven Bochco's short-lived ABC series "Cop Rock," CBS's "Viva Laughlin" had actors dancing and singing along to well-known prerecorded songs.

After a dull setup showing breakfast with his family and buying a new car for his son, Hugh Jackman goes to work at his new casino in Laughlin, Nevada - a couple hours south of Las Vegas.

He enters the casino, leaps onto a roulette table, and sings "Viva Las Vegas."

That's when we shut the TV off.

And so did the rest of the nation, as CBS cancelled the show after just two airings, losing a whopping 60 percent of its audience from its crime drama lead-in of "CSI" last Thursday and losing 40 percent after "60 Minutes" in what was to be its regular timeslot Sunday.

Unanimously panned by critics, the show couldn't keep its own audience - by the time the episode ended, a third of the audience was asleep.

CBS's website quickly expunged all traces of "Viva Laughlin." What remains are comments from a few fans after its passing and in the "CSI" message forum: "laugh out loud," "thinks out of the box," and "it think you have all made a mistack" (sic).

Cruising the Las Vegas Strip
Late afternoon cruisers on the Las Vegas Strip enjoy the perfect weather of an autumn day

Cruising the Las Vegas Strip is one of the world's 'must do' drives. Hire a streched limo, rent a Corvette, maybe a vintage Rolls Phantom, regardless of your ride cruising the Vegas Strip is a unique experience. Most of the locals drive the strip in personal vehicles sharing the famous boulevard lanes filled with tourist in rental cars.

One of my favorite ways of cruising the strip is a comfortable pair of walking shoes. The shoes are often faster strip transportation than the exotic gas burners. Earth huggers can cruise the strip from the second floor of a Deuce Bus. The Deuce is also a personal favorite. Leave a small carbon footprint while you see it all.

David Copperfield warehouse investigated by FBI

Yesterday, the FBI raided a Las Vegas warehouse on West Russell/Valley View.

But what makes the raid even more noteworthy is that it's the warehouse of illusionist David Copperfield.

According to KLAS-TV, the FBI came away with a hard drive and flash card from a digital camera. They also took almost $2 million in cash from a safe.

The investigation spans Seattle and MGM Grand, where Copperfield frequently performs.

In television specials, Copperfield has made a jet and the Statue of Liberty. Time will tell whether he'll be able to make this investigation disappear as well.

Alleged cheating at Absolute Poker being investigated

Online poker forums such as 2+2 have been abuzz about "super user" accounts being used on online poker site Absolute Poker.

Posters have focused on player POTRIPPER who played in a manner seemingly aware of other players' hole cards. PokerTracker statistics have been posted to the forum, as well as analyses and hand histories, including one in which Absolute mistakenly emailed that contained all players' hole cards -- plus names, email addresses, and IP addresses. Normal hand histories contain just hole cards of players involved in showdowns.

Once evidence was gathered and began being posted, POTRIPPER was seen on Absolute dumping money, presumably in an attempt to show he couldn't see other players' cards.

The evidence on 2+2 appears damning, yet Absolute posted a denial that any such cheating is possible and maintains the integrity of its games and site.

In Las Vegas, the Nevada Gaming Commission would step in (though we've observed casinos "handling" cheaters on their own).

Online, however, is a little more sketchy.

Absolute Poker (as well as other popular sites such as Poker Stars and Ultimate Bet) is regulated by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, a Canadian company dedicated to ensuring permitted operators, fair play, and winners are paid.

The Commission has now stepped in and has assigned consulting firm Gaming Associates to audit Absolute on the cheating allegations.

Frank Cullotta book signing at Borders

From 9:30 a.m. to noon this morning, you can "catch" ex-mob guy Frank Cullotta, made famous in Martin Scorsese's Casino for replaying a murder he actually committed.

In the '70s, Cullotta and boss Tony "the Ant" Spilotro virtually ran Las Vegas, extorting bookmakers and drug dealers. Cullotta later turned government witness and spilled everything in graphic detail, after entering the Witness Protection Program.

Along with co-author Dennis Griffin, Cullotta will be signing his book Cullotta: The Life of a Chicago Criminal, Las Vegas Mobster and Government Witness at the Borders at McCarran Airport, located upstairs before the security checkpoints.

Las Vegas Pool Review: Paris

I was trying to decide which pool to visit during my Saturday travels when it occurred to me that I had never been to the Paris Hotel and Casino. Sure, I've driven past it no less than a hundred times, been to all the casinos around it, and admired the beautiful Eiffel Tower from afar, but I've never actually been there. Such a travesty!

101407-11.jpg
Paris Hotel Effiel Tower and Swimming Pool

I packed up the iPod, celebrity gossip magazines, and other pool essentials and headed to the Paris. The parking garage was easy to find. I quickly found a spot and entered the hotel. I've never been to France, but I assume the cobblestone that lined the walkway was reminiscent of what I would find overseas. The aroma of crepes filled the air and I wished I hadn't already eaten breakfast.

More after the jump...

Friendly staff members pointed me in the right direction and I took the elevator up to the 3rd floor. As always, the big question in my head was if I was going to be granted access. The towel girls asked to see my room key, I quickly threw out the "My mom is already laying out and she has our room key - can I go in anyway?" They smiled, handed me towels and let me in! I'm getting pretty good at this. My stomach doesn't even get that nervous anymore.

Paris Hotel and Casino Resort Pool Area
Paris Hotel and Casino Resort - Swimming Pool Area

My first impression? Simple, classy, spacious and elegant. The Paris Vegas pool is picturesque with a lovely manicured landscape and a great view of the Eiffel Tower! Very pretty, but not much in the bells and whistles department.
Paris Hotel and Casino Resort - Swimming Pool Area
The Paris Hotel and Casino Resort - Swimming Pool Area

It was a windy day, so there were plenty of chairs to pick from. I found one near the cabanas and as far away from the shade as possible. I laid down and scanned the area when a gust of wind started blowing. Then I realized why half of the patrons were covered with towels - it was cold! That's the thing about sunbathing at resort casinos, a lot of times they put the pools on elevated levels, so if it's windy, you will notice a huge difference in temperature. I would venture to say that you also get tanner being up higher - it's a tradeoff. I never actually got in the pool that day, but it was very blue, large in size and extremely vacant.
Paris Hotel and Casino Resort Pool
The Paris Hotel and Casino Resort Pool

The Paris has hard and soft top cabanas. Prices vary and are more reasonable Monday - Thursday. Food and beverages can be obtained on the pool grounds, but I never once saw a cocktail server so I assume it's self serve. Like the other resorts, complimentary towel service is provided.

I will definitely visit the Paris again.

Scores is one of the most familiar brands in the adult entertainment industry. Scores finally arrived in Las Vegas in 2005 and recently celebrated their second anniversary.

Scores is not as crowded as some of the other strip clubs, which means that it's a great place to go on weekends. The cover charge is on the higher end of $30, but you get a lot of bang for your buck in the 25,000 square foot venue. Scores features the Grand Havana Private VIP Salon and the Sky Lounge which is located up on the mezzanine. There's also a private area called the Library Bottle Lounge. Beware, the bottles can be pricey. There's also another private area called the Piano Room.

More after the jump...

The main area had massive Roman pillars. There is big stage and two other stages where the dancers perform. Their website boasts 500 dancers. The times I have been to Scores, I didn't see that many. But the club was definitely stocked with some quality entertainers. Many of them fly in from New York, where they work at the original Scores.

Scores features plenty of packages, particularly catering to bachelor parties. Contact the manager at (702) 367-6040 for more information and to set up transportation from your hotel to the club.

Scores Las Vegas Gentlemen's Club

There's an interesting package called The Scores Rookie. The cost is only $40 per Guest. Here's how they describe it on their website:

"Skip the cab fare and arrive to SCORES Las Vegas in style. The SCORES Rookie package provides you and your party FREE VIP Limousine transportation from any location on the Las Vegas "Strip", VIP entry into the club, complimentary cover, and best of all your first $25 dollars in drinks are on us!"

Scores frequently updates their site, unlike the majority of strip clubs in Las Vegas. My favorite section is called Featured Entertainer, where they have a brief bio and a photo gallery of one of their girls.

You must be at least 21 years old to visit Scores' in Las Vegas.

The DJ plays a variety of Top 40, dance, and hip hop music.

Discounts: Cheetah's is free to Nevada state residents provided they bring their own transportation. If you are a local, show your Nevada's driver's license at the door to obtain free admission. Some Las Vegas strip clubs offer free or reduced admission at the door for local residents. This varies depending on the establishment.

Interesting Trivia: Jaguars strip joint used to be in the same building where Scores is located.

Honors: Scores was the winner of the "Best Club in The Southwest Region 2006" at the Adult Nightclub & Exotic Dancer Award Show. Scores also won "Best Gentleman's Club of Las Vegas 2006" by the Las Vegas Review Journal.

25 percent poker tax jettisoned in favor of W-2G

March 2008 was on the brink of being a date of dread by professional poker players.

That was the date that the 25 percent tax was to go into effect, where casinos would withhold that amount on any withdrawal over $5,000.

However, the Internal Revenue Service decided that as of March 2008, casinos will now fill out a W-2G for wins above $5,000.

W-2G forms are commonly used on slot wins of $1,200 and above. Tax is not automatically taken out, but the win is reported to the IRS and it's up to the player to declare on their taxes.

If a player refuses to fill out a W-2G, casinos will withhold 25 percent to be assured the government gets its cut.

Wayne Newton Ousted from "Dancing with the Stars"

waynenewtondwts.jpg

"Mr. Las Vegas" Wayne Newton was this week's celebrity casualty on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars." Newton and his professional partner Cheryl Burke received the lowest scores on Monday's celeb dance-off, and landed in the bottom two for the second consecutive week.

Las Vegas' Floyd Mayweather survived however, performing a lively jive that earned enough audience votes to keep the boxing champion in contention for another week.

Newton, the show's resident "older guy with personality" (a la John Ratzenberger and Jerry Springer in previous seasons) earned praise for his great showmanship during his tenure on the show, but at the end of the day his lack of grace and technique got the better of him. His final performance was a theatrically done tango, complete with Newton donning a stick-on mustache.

"Dancing With the Stars" airs Mondays at 8 PM and Tuesday nights at 9 PM on ABC.

Unlike other gaming activities, poker and charity seem to go well together.

On Oct. 24 at The Cannery (the nice North Las Vegas one), the Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities holds their annual Cards for Kids hold'em tourney in the new poker room.

The following weekend will have the Las Vegas Motor Speedway buzzing with the NHRA ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals, and if you play the poker tournament, you'll have a chance to play against your favorite NHRA driver.

Buy-in is $250 for 1,000 chips.

First place is guaranteed at a minimum of $1,400, with a total prize pool of $5,000.

The final table receives cash, with prizes given to other places as well as railbirds.

All players will receive free food and drink.

Las Vegas Hilton poker room to close next week

The Las Vegas Hilton.

The Las Vegas Hilton.

The poker room at the Las Vegas Hilton will close next week on Oct. 17.

No mention has yet been made at their website.

Judging from poker's continued popularity, we don't view this as the beginning of the end of poker in Las Vegas but instead simply an out-of-the-way room in an out-of-the-way casino that wasn't pulling in enough money to warrant space that could instead be used for slot machines.

The times we've visited, the room's never had more than three tables running while comprising mostly locals. We did however think a casino would still hold on to a failing poker room as a loss leader to bring in players to tempt them with other games (the poker room is just outside the sportsbook with many slot machines on the way from parking/valet).

The poker room at Tuscany is as equally abandoned as Hilton's, in our opinion, but time will tell.

And what about Hooters' three-table poker room?

We'll keep our eyes open to possible ramifications of the first Las Vegas poker room to close since poker's resurgence and reopenings, but aside from additional closings of smaller rooms, we don't think there will be much impact in the forseeable future.

Pamela Anderson marries Rick Salomon

In the worst-kept secret this side of Las Vegas public marriage licenses, Pamela Anderson exchanged "I Do"s with Rick Salomon over the Columbus Day weekend.

Both obtained a marriage license a week before, sparking gossip that they had already tied the knot.

They married quickly, within the 90 minutes between two Beauty of Magic shows, where she performs as a magician's assistant to Hans Klok at Planet Hollywood. So quick was the announcement, they had to make do with a cardboard wedding cake.

Onstage at her second show, 40-year-old Anderson announced she was frazzled because she had just gotten married.

For those keeping score, this marks Anderson's third marriage (Tommy Lee and Kid Rock being lucky #1 and 2). Elizabeth Taylor, who was already on her fifth husband when she was Anderson's age, ultimately took eight husbands.

Party Poker suggests sale to Las Vegas casino

Will MGM Mirage team up with Party Poker?

Party Poker for Sale

The owner of Party Poker wants to sell.

In Barcelona, PartyGaming gave an interview at the European EIG 2007 Expo and stated they're open to offers from Las Vegas casinos.

This could be a move to attract a bidder or to add a competitor to a bid they may already have received.

As for the possible players, we would guess MGM Mirage, Harrah's, The Venetian, or Wynn.

MGM Mirage seems the most likely candidate, having experimented with an online casino in the past (Wagerworks) and currently being so flush with cash from Dubai World that they're planning a multi-billion-dollar casino in Atlantic City.

Dubai World is expected to spend $2.7 billion to fund and develop half of MGM Mirage's Project CityCenter plus over $1 billion more for a further stake in the casino conglomerate.

PartyGaming has a market cap of almost $2.5 billion. Pre-UIGEA, they were valued at $10 billion. If the U.S. online gambling climate were to change, PartyGaming or whoever owns their casino and poker sites would be in a comfortable position to re-enter the United States and make a run for regaining their dominance.

Admission: $30 (Locals free before 6pm)
Lap Dances: $20 ($30 on stage)
Food: Limited menu
Parking: Free parking lot
ATM: Yes
Website: http://www.ogvegas.com/

Olympic Garden (OG) is the only strip club located on the Strip, just north of the Stratosphere. Over a decade ago, OG set the standard for strip clubs and quickly became the premiere club in town with a spacious area and the hottest girls in town. Although it is no longer the jewel of Las Vegas, it's still one of the most popular adult entertainment venues. I've been a couple of times and have never been let down.

Olympic Garden is located at the juncture of Wyoming and Las Vegas Blvd

OG's cover charge is pricier than some of the other places in town. However, they offer up a VIP drink package which includes free admission with a free limo and transportation. Call (702) 492-3960 for more details. OG has a private VIP room and there are five smaller stages on the floor and one big one upstairs.

OG is an extremely popular place to hold bachelor and bachelorette parties. OG features both male and female entertainers. On the second floor of the building in a 7,000 sq. ft. space, OG features The Men of Olympus, which is their version of an all male revue. It's a big hit among females who are looking to do some crotch gazing. The Men of Oympus is open from Wednesday thru Sunday from 9pm to 1am. It is open to 4am on Friday and Saturday. The Men of Oympus are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

You must be at least 21 years old to visit the OG in Las Vegas.

The DJ plays a mixture of Top 40, classic and hard rock, and some hip hop.

Interesting Trivia: Former major league baseball player Jose Canseco was recently sponsored by OG. He was bought into the 2007 WSOP main event and sported a yellow OG t-shirt. Sadly, they didn't get much on their investment. Canseco busted out early on Day 1. He flopped a Broadway straight, but Amir Vahedi rivered a flush to eliminate him from the WSOP

Hans Klok Keg Tapping at Hofbrauhaus Las Vegas, free beer coupon

hoflogo.jpg

Join illusionist Hans Klok (maybe with a surprise appearance by assistant Pamela Anderson?) tonight at Hofbrauhaus for some Hans Klok Keg Tapping.

Continuing to celebrate Oktoberfest, festivities begin at 6 p.m.

The band Die Reiflinger will play, encouraging everyone to sing and dance.

Sign up to their email list and you'll receive a coupon for a free beer.

Hofbrauhaus is located on Paradise across from Hard Rock.

Two hours free at Kids Tyme

kids-tyme-coupon.jpg

One benefit local casinos have over tourist casinos are the extra amenities that cater toward locals, including locals with kids.

Movie theaters, bowling alleys, arcades, and fast food are all available in one handy location. Of course, once you're in the door you're forced to walk through tempting slot machines and table games in order to get to your destination.

Some casinos such as The Orleans, Gold Coast, Suncoast, and South Point offer Kids Tyme, a temporary daycare service containing arts, crafts, and games to keep 8-12-year-olds occupied.

If your sitter is sick and you plan a casino outing (or dinner at the casino), consider dropping the kids off at Kids Tyme. Though they do expect you to stay in the casino to gamble, you could make a quick getaway without them knowing. Just don't forget to return to pick up the kids!

Age range varies from casino to casino, and hours are about 9 a.m. to midnight.

Some, like Gold Coast, offers free daycare up to 3 1/2 hours.

Others with more elaborate playthings run $5 per hour.

Use the above coupon (click here for a printable version) for a free 2 hours now through Oct. 30.

Las Vegas Pool Reviews: Mandalay Bay

This weekend I ventured down to the south end of the Strip and visited The Beach at Mandalay Bay. The Beach doesn't have your typical run of the mill pool, it's actually a wave pool, a lazy river and a sandy beach for your sunbathing enjoyment.

The Beach Pool at Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino
The Beach Pool at Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino

As a Florida native and a fan of laying out ocean side, the Mandalay Bay does a good job of emulating the whole beach experience. The major difference is that on a real beach you don't see hundreds of lounge chairs crammed into a small patch, you usually have miles and miles of sandy beach to choose from. I'm partial to bringing a blanket and a lounge chair, that way I can switch back and forth.

More after the jump...

Initially, I was nervous as I headed to the pool area because I knew that Mandalay Bay had the scanners to check if your room key was still active. I had a room key and of course it was inactive, so I figured my best bet was to walk in with someone else heading to the pool. I had to stop a few people to find the pool, it wasn't clearly marked, but eventually I headed to the far end of the casino, down the stairs and out the double doors. I stuck close to the gentlemen in front of me and SCORE! I walked right in.

The Beach Pool at Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino

Finding a seat was much more difficult. The resort is 11 acres of lush beauty and it has three pools. I walked through the wave pool area around 10:30 am and of course it was in high demand. There wasn't a seat in the house!!! I'm guessing these people went outside and reserved ten lounge chairs each by throwing towels over each individual chair, because when I sauntered through the area, there wasn't an empty chair to be found. I headed to the side pools and again I was met with a sea of occupied lounge chairs. I was about to give up when I spotted a lone chair in the corner next to the trash can. Sure, it wasn't the most ideal spot, but at least it was on the end and in front of the pool. I quickly threw my towels and beach bag on the chair and jumped in the pool. Very refreshing!

The Beach Pool at Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino

Cocktail waitresses were abundant, the chairs were fairly normal, and the towels were white and soft. The sound system was pumping out very upbeat salsa tunes. The sun was shining brightly on another beautiful day in Las Vegas!

Beach Bar and grill at Mandalay Bay

My biggest complaint about the pool was the crowd. I really wanted to lay out at the wave pool and listen to the soothing crash of the waves, feel the sand in my toes and watch the seagulls flying over head. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be. If I can give any suggestions to tourists coming into town, I would say to get to the pool early! The safest way to get a seat is to head down there as soon as they open around 7:00 a.m. and lay out your towels, head to breakfast and then come back and make a day out of it. Trust me, you won't get a seat at the nicer pools if you wait too long.

Overall, the Mandalay Bay Pool is a beautiful and unique area because of the lazy river, the wave pool and the beach. The crowd was fun, energetic and hip. I would definitely go there again. You should put it on the list next time you're in Vegas.

Pamela Anderson married to Rick Salomon?

What's the purpose of obtaining a marriage license without intent to marry?

Pamela Anderson and boyfriend Rick Salomon applied and received a Las Vegas marriage license over the weekend... er, just in case.

On the "Ellen" show, Anderson alluded to a professional poker player she was dating with possible plans to marry but didn't mention names.

"I paid off a poker debt with sexual favors," she said, perhaps not realizing she was basically prostituting herself.

Anderson was married to Kid Rock and Tommy Lee and starred in an explicit home sex tape with Tommy Lee.

Salomon was married to Shannen Doherty and starred in an explicit home sex tape with Paris Hilton.

The marriage license is good for one year.

Perhaps they could also apply for a divorce while they're at it.

Some remodeled Rio rooms closed, investigated for public safety

In 1980, 87 people died in an infamous fire took over MGM Grand from what was determined to be an electrical ground fault.

Clark County inspectors are currently investigating blocks of Rio's remodeled rooms in the Ipanema Tower that occurred in 2004 and 2005.

While being remodeled, Harrah's did not apply for permits because it had said at the time that changes were purely cosmetic.

Anonymous electricians informed the Review-Journal that not every effort was made to ensure public safety in the remodeling, and Clark County inspectors stepped in to find various violations.

Expecting to take 11 weeks, nine rooms at a time will be shuttered and investigated.

Actress faked cancer to get money

We remember seeing actress/singer Christine Anderson as Candy and Mandy at Sahara's old revue "The Rat Pack is Back" produced by David Cassidy.

Three years ago, Anderson contracted cancer and put the word out through her peers, who began collecting donations for her through many benefit performances including Vegas Cares. The single mother of three children, Anderson wasn't able to work and couldn't obtain insurance.

With powerhouse celebrities Rita Rudner and Lance Burton leading the way, almost $50,000 was raised to assist her and her family.

Last year, Channel 3 News investigated and found Anderson had faked the whole thing. She was never treated or diagnosed with cancer at all.

The FBI investigated and charged her with six counts of fraud. Recently, Anderson pleaded guilty of mail fraud and is now on probation for five years, the first six months of which is home confinement.

She also agreed to pay back the money she took.
