Las Vegas Sun wins Pulitzer Prize

Your very own Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper can be found at your doorstep.
Yesterday, the Las Vegas Sun was presented the esteemed award for Public Service.
Last year, the Sun ran a series of over 50 articles about the number of construction worker deaths along the Las Vegas Strip, including the MGM Mirage CityCenter site.
Specifically, the Pulitzer panel pointed out "courageous reporting" by staff writer Alexandra Berzon "for the exposure of the high death rate among construction workers on the Las Vegas Strip amid lax enforcement of regulations, leading to changes in policy and improved safety conditions."
Her controversial writing caused an uproar when she reported that construction workers were "dying at a rate of one every six weeks in the $32 billion building boom on the Las Vegas Strip."
Runner-up to the Sun was The New York Times, with its coverage of the economic meltdown.
Berzon, 29, began with the Sun in 2007. It's her first staff writer position with a newspaper.
Berzon was in court when the news came. She was covering a lawsuit about safety conditions.
