$245 million arts center to break ground in downtown Las Vegas

A world-class performing arts center will have its groundbreaking on Tuesday, May 26, set for an early 2012 opening.
In spite of the economy, the $245 million Smith Center downtown at Bonneville Ave./Grand Central Parkway is being funded by a combination of public and private funding, including a $150 million contribution from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation.
Spanning five acres and two buildings, the venue will include multiple theaters and expects to be home the Las Vegas Philharmonic and Nevada Ballet Theatre, while being host to music, theater, and dance companies around the world.
A main theater will seat 2,050 seats, along with a 300-seat cabaret theater and 200-seat studio theater.
