The Buzz
The field got smaller and smaller as the day progressed. Since the field was busting out at a rapid pace, Jack Effel made the decision to play only 4 1/2 level or until 99 players remain. All of the eye sin the Amazon Ballroom were focused on the back corner were the few remaining tables held the action. Space was limited with all the media and camera crews capturing every moment.
The Backstory
There five WSOP Champions remaining in the field including Berry Johnston (1986), Scotty Nguyen, Huck Seed (1996), Carlos Mortensen (2001), and Robert Varkonyi (2002). Mortensen and Varkonyi did not make it past the dinner break. Johnston busted on the last hand of the day.
Sight of the Day
Dag Martin Mikkelsen from Norway was the first player past the 3M mark as he amassed the monster stack that was four stories high.
Quote of the Day
"The shark is hungry!" Humberto Brenes shouted before he won a big pot with pocket Kings. Brenes had been taunting his opponents with his miniature sharks.
Hand of the Day
Dag Martin Mikkelson won the biggest pot in the WSOP main event (so far) when he took down a 3M monster. He flopped a straight with 7c-6s. His opponent, Jeff Weiss, flopped second pair and a flush draw. All the money was put in on the flop and Dag Martin Mikkelson's hand held up. That pot pushed him past the 3M mark as he took over the chiplead.
