Cosmopolitan Resort Opens Dec.15 Without a Poker Room

Cosmopolitan is set to open December 15th

Probably the last grand opening for a number of years of a major resort property on the Las Vegas Strip will occur on December 15th when the Cosmopolitan at CityCenter comes online.  The latest in luxury resorts will have a 100,000 square foot casino, as large as the MGM Grand and larger than its neighbor across the strip, Planet Hollywood.  What it will not have is a poker room.

Is the hand writing on the wall for poker?  With UIEGA still very much in effect and no change in sight, poker has suffered a downturn with poker rooms shrinking (Hard Rock Hotel) or closing altogether.  The great American past time has been embraced by the rest of the world while the US political machine once again sends it into the dark, smokey closet.  Poker is not likely to rebound until we elect Congressional Reps with the balls to throw out UIEGA.  Milk Toast Reid is not likely to change much of anything other than his magic underwear and bank accounts.

For those that believe we need to conduct a study (Barney Franks) for a few months or years to determine if we can effectively regulate online poker I say, "Nuts!"  Does anyone remember any government study that did any good for the masses?  Government studies are nothing more than speed bumps erected to slow down a process while politicians determine which side of the question will net them the greatest monetary gain (slow = $$$).  UIEGA would be repealed and forgotten in a New York minute if a few of the online gambling houses were to pony up some slush money and discretely throw it over the transoms of the elected chumps in Washington.

That's how we do business in our great republic.
