ADVANCED TIPS (Downloading and using the Power Seller templates)

eBay has made available a set of templates for Power Sellers to download and use to print business cards with the eBay approved Power Seller logo. We realize some of the Power Seller community has encountered difficulties attempting to use the templates. We will offer a simple approach to the successful use of the templates.

What you will need.

1. The templates from eBay
2. Microsoft Word
3. Image editing software (optional)
4. Good inkjet or laser jet printer (optional)
5. Business card stock (optional)

STEP 1 Downloading and opening the templates

Download and save the templates from eBay to your computer. Remember where you saved them. Go to the saved file and open it with Microsoft Word.
TIP: Don't left click on the link, instead, right click and select "save document as" from the drop down menu. This will prevent some versions of Internet Explorer from automatically opening the document.

STEP 2 Placing your text into the format

In the right hand section of each card you will notice the default text. (your name, etc.) Replace the default text line by line in one of the cards on the page with your text by deleting the default text and replacing it with your text. If you do not want to use some of the optional default text lines simply delete the entire line.

Save the document with your info to a new file and print a test page to ensure that none of the margins or settings has been altered. You will have an unusable card should this occur so check the test page against a card stock page for correct alignment. If the cards do not register with the business card stock page go back and correct the problem by opening the original template and correcting the error.
TIP: Once you have acceptable text and alignment with your information then replace all of the text on the template with your text by using the copy and paste options to complete the page.

STEP 3 Adding your logo

Replacing the default "YOUR LOGO" icon with text is easily accomplished by deleting the "YOUR LOGO" icon and typing in your text.
TIP: Keep the size of your text to the approximate size of the "YOUR LOGO" icon (148 wide x 54 high) to avoid formatting problems.

Replacing with an image is almost as easy using the following steps:

  1. Select the "YOUR LOGO" graphic and copy it.
  2. Paste the copied graphic into your preferred image editing software (ie Paint Shop Pro, Adobe Photoshop)
  3. Use the editing tools to replace the default icon with your image.
TIP: Don't alter the image size or you may encounter severe formatting problems.
  4. Your image is now complete so you need to copy it.
  5. Now move the modified image with your logo into the template with your text by selecting the "YOUR LOGO" icon and pasting over it.
TIP: If the image text is blurred or distorted use the Paste Special to paste the image as a bitmap. This will usually solve blur and distortion problems.
  6. Print a test page and if you are satisfied with the logo image then go to the template and paste over the remaining "YOUR LOGO" icons.
  7. Print a final test page and check for alignment with your card stock sheet

STEP 4 Printing your cards

Insert your business card stock sheet into the printer and print a page of cards. If you are satisfied with the results then continue. Save the file for future printings. Should the quality not be as desired then save the file to a floppy disk and take to a professional printer.
