Orlando of Tampa wins 5 Diamond's Event #3
Orlando Maldonado, winner of Event #3 of the Five Diamonds Poker Tournament at the Bellagio.
The final table of Event #3 was played Friday at the Bellagio. The start time for all final tables of the Fourth Annual Five Diamonds Poker Classic is 3:00PM. The players coming to the final table included 1998 WSOP World Champion Scotty Nguyen and common to most of the WSOP Main Event winners they are dangerous adversaries with any number of chips and Scotty had plenty. J.C. Tran, a smart young champion with a calculated aggressive style of play, can take your chips away. A tough bunch of poker players with the common goal of eliminating everyone else. The last player sitting at the end of the afternoon's play was Orlando Maldonado of Tampa, Florida.
Scotty Nguyen finished in second place.
Orlando had to square off with Scotty Nguyen in the heads up after another Florida player, Jeff Cohen of Parkland, was eliminated in the third spot and received $62,015. The two way session came to a quick end after both players saw the flop come 4s,10d,7d giving Orlando two pair with his 10h,4c and Scotty making a pair holding of 4's with his 4h,5h. Orlando bet and Scotty called. The turn was a 5c giving Scotty two pair, he moved all-in and Orlando quickly called. The 9d on the river didn't change anything and Orlando wins his first Bellagio Five Diamond gold bracelet. He also receives a $25,000 + $500 seat in the 2006 WPT Championship at the Bellagio next April and a nice pile of cash, $234,095. Scotty collected $124,030 for his second place finish.
