Johnny Chan playing in the 2006 WSOP Main Event
WSOP 2006 Champion Jamie Gold and his bag full of problems maintain a strangle hold on the poker media buzz. What's true and what's not concerning his 2006 WSOP ME win is a gray area with no definitions beyond a variety of opinions. All of this confusion surrounding the WSOP ME winner caught the attention of the Poker Prof and he decided to personally track down the facts and discard the fiction. In typical Prof fashion he went straight to the top name in the WSOP/Gold rumor mill. On Monday, the Prof spoke with Johnny Chan, the WSOP ten bracelet champion including back to back wins in the Main Event Johnny Chan. Rumor says he had a deal with Gold and was promised 10% of the WSOP winnings. The Poker Prof asked Chan what financial arrangements, if any, he had with Jamie Gold and was he, in fact, owed 10% of Gold's $12 million winnings? Johnny Chan said, "None whatsoever." So, Gold owes nothing to Chan from the WSOP Main Event money.

Just when you thought 2006 WSOP poker couldn't get any more convoluted comes news out of Texas that San Antonio poker player Richard Lee is under investigation after authorities last Tuesday searched his properties looking for evidence they claim will prove their case against the WSOP Main Event's 6th place finisher and winner of $2.8 million. He's suspected of running the largest sports betting operation in that part of Texas and apparently his clients include many of San Antonio's political movers and shakers, some prominent members of the justice community and most of the well heeled sports betting crowd. Sounds like the new 'poker commish' has some definite image problems within his vast empire.
