Ben Ponzia is a happy young man with an additional $599,467 in cash, a WSOP bracelet and a new Corum watch. He played solid poker for three days, won all of his all-ins', and got a helping hand from Lady luck to take down the $2K No-Limit Hold'em Event #25 at the 2007 World Series of Poker. Ponzia defeated David Hewitt in heads-up play for the championship. Hewitt takes home $374,216 for second.
In Sunday's second Final Table, $5,000 H.O.R.S.E. Event #26, Ralph Schwartz of New York outlasted the field to take down the $275,683 first place money, a Corum watch and the coveted gold WSOP Champion's bracelet. Heads-up play found Schwartz facing the always tough Bill Gazes; but, Gazes couldn't overcome the huge chip deficit and had to settle for second place and $153,408 in cash.
Of note, Schwartz left the press holding their cameras while he took a hike outside to smoke, finally returning for the two minute photo shoot. He also declined Gazes' offer to play heads-up for some "real money." Congratulations to Ralph Schwartz and Ben Ponzia for their World series of Poker victories on Sunday.
