Freddy Deeb Wins $50K HORSE Event at 2007 WSOP

Local Las Vegas Professional Poker player Freddy Deeb is the World Champion Poker Player for 2007. He defeated Bruno Fitoussi in heads up play that finally ended at dawn this morning. Freddy already has a WSOP bracelet; but now he has one of the very special WSOP all around best poker player bracelets. Along with the jewelry he received a special Corum watch and $2,276,832 in cash.

When I took the winner's photo I reminded him that I've taken his photo many times over the years but this was the most important one ever. He wholeheartedly agreed. He told WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack the credit for his win goes to his lucky shirt.

Bruno Fitoussi received $1,278,720 for second place. Congratulations to main man Freddy Deeb, World Champion Poker Player.

Calling All Poker Players in Las Vegas: Audition for a Shot at Reality TV's Largest Prize Ever

Bodog Announces Open Casting Call for "Calvin Ayre Wild Card Poker II" this July 5 - 8, at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

LAS VEGAS - As thousands of poker players from around the world descend upon Las Vegas this July for the World Series of Poker, Bodog Entertainment will be in town looking to increase a few players' odds of becoming poker's next superstar and millionaire.

Announced today, the digital entertainment giant will hold an open casting call in Las Vegas this July 5 - 8, searching for contestants for "Calvin Ayre Wild Card Poker II," a new poker reality TV program where 12 amateur poker players compete for a $2-million prize package -- the largest grand prize in reality TV history.

"Naturally, if you are looking for poker players in July, Vegas and the WSOP are the place to be," notes Bodog Entertainment founder Calvin Ayre. Adding, "We expect to find some talented and unique players for our second season of Wild Card from these auditions."

Bodog will hold all four days of auditions at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino (formerly the Aladdin, 3667 Las Vegas Blvd. South), in the "Sapphire 2" room, between noon and 5 p.m. each day. Those interested in auditioning must be at least 21 years of old and bring a photo ID. Poker players of varying skills levels, from beginner to advanced, are welcome to audition.

Season one of "Calvin Ayre Wild Card Poker" set ratings highs in its time slot last year with Hollywood celebrities, big name poker pros, and amateur hopefuls battling it out for $500,000. Season two is raising the stakes much higher, with four-times more money on the line and without the pros and celebrities competing (like they need the money anyway).

The 12-person cast chosen for "Calvin Ayre Wild Card Poker II" will be whisked away to an exotic locale, where they will live together in a mansion and compete against one another in a number of poker infused lifestyle challenges both at and away from the poker table. In the end, only one of the lucky 12 contestants will be crowned champion of "Calvin Ayre Wild Card Poker II" and awarded the reality TV record-breaking $2 million grand prize -- $1 million in cash and a $1 million Bodog contract that includes buy-ins and travel to poker's biggest tournaments for a year after the show.

Filming for "Calvin Ayre Wild Card Poker II" begins fall of 2007 and will air later this year nationally, globally, and on BodogTV.

For more details on how you can take a shot at poker superstardom, visit: www.bodog.com/poker/wild-card -poker/season-02/

$50K HORSE 2007 WSOP
Is the Mouth heading to victory lane? Stay tuned

There will be no 2007 $50K H.O.R.S.E. repeat for for Chip Reese. The defending champion was eliminated in 47th place. Left in the hunt for the '07 title of best all-around World Champion poker player are some big names including Negreanu, Raymer, Phan, Greenstein and Gabe Kaplan.

Amon Filippi sits atop the leader board's 21 remaining players with 2,3453,000 in chips. Kenny Tran is second at 1,959,000 and Bruno Fitousso third with 1,248,000. Flipchip has picked "The Mouth" to win it all even though he's in the middle of the pack with just under 700,000 in chips. Matusow is once again demostrating his rock solid poker talent and a mature patience reminescent of his march to victory in the WSOP Tournament of Champions in December 2005. If the races break even Mike's the Man.

Rumors swirl through the 'in crowd' about Daniel Negreanu's side action that could net him some record level prop bet money if he wins the title; but, he'll have to pull off a chip and a chair miracle since he's third from the bottom of the chip list with just 149,000 in play money. Our favorite Italian Pirate, Max Pescatori, is the short stack at 81,000.

Kristy, Tara and Marissol agreed to pose for the cameras and Flipchip had some time to kill between event dinner breaks; so, we present the results to help make your Monday morning a bit easier. Of course, you could always hop a plane and meet the girls in person at the High Limit Bar located within the ESPN TV Final Table production set.

This post is dedicated to Sir Al Can't Hang, the original party animal of the poker blogging crowd. As we always say, "Al is not the life of the party, he is the party!" Enjoy...

Greg Hopkins, winner WSOP Event #37, $2K Pot Limit Hold'em

Hidden from view inside the Bluff Cryptoteria, the final table of the $2000 Pot Limit Hold'em Event #37 crowned a winner after a couple of hours of heads up play between Greg Hopkins and Jason Newburger. The two had been trading chips and the lead most of the evening until the end finally arrived. Both had demonstrated a cautious playing style that saw some big laydowns before Newburger raised the pot with a Ks,Qs and was reraised by Hopkins' pocket Jacks. Without hesitation Newburger moved all in and was called by Hopkins. The flop, 9,10,2o, offered no help and were all red so no flush draw. Newburger's only hope was a Jack for a gut shot straight, or a King or Queen for a bigger pair. The turn was another 10 and the river was a 4. Hopkins was the 2007 WSOP $2K Pot Limit Hold'em Champion.

Hopkins received $269,707, the Corum watch and the WSOP Brecelet while Newburger settled for $165,707. Congratualtions to Greg Hopkins, the 2007 WSOP $2000 Pot Limit Hold'em Champion.

A mini-marathon heads up match was required to determine the 2007 WSOP Omaha Hi Lo Championship. The longest heads-up match to date at the 2007 WSOP played deep into the night before a champion was crowned in the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha w/rebuys Event #33. Alan Smurfit and Qushqar Morad traded chips throughout the marathon event often resulting in both players having just enough checks to make the next antes and blinds; then, the short stack would climb out of the hole and continue. The end finally came when Alan Smurfit put Qushqar Morad all-in and the flop offered no help for Morad to give Smurfit the win. Alan Smurfit goes home with a Corum watch, the WSOP bracelet and $464,867 in cash. Qushqar Morad walks away with second place and $279,595.

Ralph Schwartz, winner WSOP Event #26

In Sunday's second Final Table, $5,000 H.O.R.S.E. Event #26, Ralph Schwartz of New York outlasted the field to take down the $275,683 first place money, a Corum watch and the coveted gold WSOP Champion's bracelet. Heads-up play found Schwartz facing the always tough Bill Gazes; but, Gazes couldn't overcome the huge chip deficit and had to settle for second place and $153,408 in cash.

Of note, Schwartz left the press holding their cameras while he took a hike outside to smoke, finally returning for the two minute photo shoot. He also declined Gazes' offer to play heads-up for some "real money." Congratulations to Ralph Schwartz and Ben Ponzia for their World series of Poker victories on Sunday.

Eli Elezra with new gold bracelet for his first WSOP win

Eli elezra finally proves he's as good as we all know him to be. Accumulating chips throughout the event he had to face and defeat a WSOP Main Event World Champion, Scotty Nguyen. With a huge chip lead the colorful Elezra continued to hack away at Scotty's stack until he finally collected all of the chips for the win.

An intersting side story circulated through the Rio Pavilion about the side bets Eli won by taking down the event. Apparently Barry Greenstein owes him a quarter million after making him a 10-1 dog to win then accepting a $25K wager from Eli. Rumors are also spreading that he may be collecting more than a half mil in additional side action. All that 'extra cash' makes the $198,894 first place prize pale in comparison; but the coveted gold bracelet and Corum watch will be shining for years to come. Scotty Nguyen had to sette for the $110,731 second place money. Congratulations to Eli Elezra for the victory.

Burt Boutin, Winner Event #7

Day six of the WSOP continued with an action packed day that included six simultaneous tournaments. Two bracelets were awarded while two new events started and two others continued with their second day of action.

The Buzz

Henderson,NV resident Burt Boutin won a bracelet in the $5K PLO with Rebuys event that featured a tough final table with Humberto Brenes, John Juanda, Devilfish, and Minh Ly. Of course, Boutin was full of nervous energy. Perhaps it was all the red bull he was consuming but he kept pacing back and forth on the final table stage. He almost skipped the event but a friend presuaded him to play

The Backstory

The backstory (total pun intended) was Brandi Hawbaker playing in the Event #10 $2,000 NL event with Capt. Tom Franklin. At one point, she was among the chipleaders. The part-time stripper and drama queen was also seen sweating David Skalansky, who is supposedly her poker mentor.

Event #7 $5K Omaha Heads Up

Hand of the Day

In Event #7 $5K PLO with Rebuys, the final hand was by far the hand of the day. Heads up, Burt Boutin called the small blind. Erik Cajelais raised another 240K from the big blind. Boutin called. 720K in the pot. The flop was Ac-Jc-5c. Cajelais moved all in for 340K. Boutin called with Ad-Qs-8s-7c. Cajelais flipped over Ah-Qh-10s-3c. The were tied at the moment with a pair of Aces with a Queen kicker. However, Boutin took the lead on the turn when the 7h fell. Cajelais had outs for a win or a chop and was still alive. However, the 4s on the river sealed the victory for Burt Boutin. He won $825,956 and his second bracelet.

Did Phil Gordon skip the 2007 WSOP to play Rock, Paper, Scissors?

With much of the focus these days on the 2007 World Series of Poker, we thought it might be fun to report on something other than poker taking place in Vegas: the 2007 Bud Light USA Rock, Paper, Scissors World Championship.

The rather unusual competition held recently at Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino featured 298 competitors from across the U.S., all vying for the coveted USARPS trophy and $50K prize. Thirty-year-old Texan Jamie Langridge would go on to win the event, but it was 9th place winner, Aaron "Premonition" Rich, who created a bigger stir. Rich challenged celebrity guest referee and poker pro Phil Gordon to a best of 10 throw down. The Bodog-sponsored Rock, Paper, Scissors prodigy beat Gordon 10 to 8 and earned himself an extra $5K.

Tom Schneider, Winner Event #5

Winner Tom Schneider said he doesn't play either Omaha or Stud very well and really had no intentions of playing the WSOP Event #5, $2500 Buy-in Omaha/Stud mix game. When the last flop was out he was the winner of a nice shiny gold bracelet and $214,347 in cash. Second place finisher Ed Tonnellier settled for $118,456 and third place went to the popular professional Annie Duke who collected $72,210 for her efforts. The final table included John 'Razor' Phan and WSOP Main Event Champion Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson.

Mike Segal, Winner Event #4

Crowd favorite Gavin Smith just missed picking up a WSOp bracelet when he fell short by one. The natural skills and experience couldn't overcome the aggresive style and card favored Mike Segal in the WSOP Event #4, $1500 Buy-In Pot-Limit Hold'em. Mike played solid poker and continued to accumulate the chips until he had them all. He also goes home with a gold bracelet and $252,290 in cash. A very nice present to receive and give to his wife on their same day wedding anniversary Tuesday.

Gavin walked away with $155,645 as first runner up while third place finisher Jon Friedberg banked $101,276.

Day #2 of the 2007 WSOP was a record setter when 2998 players took a seat in the $1500 No-Limit Hold'em event #3. The number could have been higher had the crush of players not overpowered the registration process. The room waits for the command to begin

The "Big Poker Show" is now underway. Starting a half hour late, Jamie Gold gave the "Shuffle up and deal " command to put the cards in the hour. The roster for today's $5K Mixed Hold'em event is a who's who list of poker stars.

The playing cards designed especially for this year's WSOP were quickly replaced after players complained that they were to difficult to read (6's and 9's were almost impossible to discern) and resulted in hand misreads and players having to stand to read the flop. More later...
