We heard rumors a few weeks ago, but we kept mum until it was definite.

Alas, it’s sadly true: the Sahara will be closing May 16.

One of the last remaining casinos from the Rat Pack era, its closure indicates how hard the down economy has hit Las Vegas.

Last year, the Sahara had closed a hotel tower and their buffet, under the guise of remodeling, but it was writing on the wall.

Not to start any further casino deathwatch rumor, but Binion’s has also shuttered their hotel as well as valet.
