With a vacant kiosk and a rising trend in ear-piercing, jewelry store owners Bernard and Bertha Cohen used the opportunity to open the very first Piercing Pagoda in the Whitehall Mall in Whitehall, Pennsylvania in 1969. Their venture was an immediate success, as women looking for a convenient way to have their ears pierced would come to the kiosk from up to 100 miles away.
