Pacific Sun

Phone: 702.369.4084 (Fashion Show Mall), 702.433.0003 (Galleria at Sunset)

Address:

3200 Las Vegas Blvd. So. Las Vegas, NV 89109--Fashion Show Mall
1300 West Sunset Rd. Henderson, NV 89014--Galleria at Sunset

From the Pac Sun website:

It all started as a little surf shop in 1980 in Newport Beach, California. It wasn't called Pacific Sunwear then. It wasn't even all that different from all the other shops carrying surfboards and wax, except for one thing, the founders had a better idea. You see, during Southern California's wet, cool winters, the beaches get empty and the surf store business goes dry. Where does everyone go? To the mall of course. That was the idea: to be the first surf shop to move into California's popular mall locations.

The first mall opening was in 1981 in Santa Monica Place. It was huge. Soon we opened seven more mall stores up and down the coast in places like Torrance, Thousand Oaks and West Los Angeles. By 1987 we had grown to 21 stores.

But PacSun wasn't the only good idea born at the beach in the early '80s. All over Orange County, California, locals were creating their own brands of clothing with names like Gotcha, CatchIt and Quiksilver. One day a guy walked into the PacSun store with a carton of super-long board shorts and the kids grabbed them before we could get them out of the box. The brand? Billabong. We all grew up together. In '89 we expanded outside of California for the first time. We opened up shops on the East Coast and ran into some snags. Surf brands were mainly shorts and t-shirts and the East Coast was mainly cold. But we caught on quick and so did our vendors. Our surf and skate brands moved into long pants and sleeves, and sales began to climb. Pants and T-shirts got bigger and so did PacSun. Skate brands like Gypsys & Thieves and Vision came along in 1990. Fresh Jive brought out baggy jeans and PacSun caught the trend. We introduced private brands like Island Force, Diversion and Shotts to help fill in the line. Stussy hit the beach in '92 and the kids couldn't buy it fast enough. We were at 60 stores when we went public in '93.

It's a blur after that. We introduced juniors and shoes, expanded the store size, opened our first outlet store, opened our first non-mall store in Greenwich Village, New York, and just kept growing. From one surf shop to over 859 Pacific Sunwear stores and 76 Pacific Sunwear outlet stores in 50 states and Puerto Rico.

How does PacSun succeed when thousands of other clothing companies fail? We listen; and we change. Someone once said to the CEO of PacSun, "You give too much credit to those kids." But everyone at PacSun knows the kids have the answers. We listen to get the trends, the solutions and find out what we're doing right. The rest, of course, is history.

Hot Topic

Phone: 702.650.9710 (Fashion Show Mall), 702.456.6605 (Galleria at Sunset)

Address:

3200 Las Vegas Blvd. So. Las Vegas, NV 89109--Fashion Show Mall
1300 West Sunset Rd. Henderson, NV 89014--Galleria at Sunset

From Hot Topic:

In the fall of 1989, Hot Topic opened its doors in Westminster, California. We'd love to tell you it was a huge success, with hundreds of teens clawing their way into the store, but we'd be lying. Sales were disappointing. Some days we barely made a hundred bucks. Was founder Orv Madden's vision doomed? It was time to take a step back and re-evaluate. First, our location in the mall wasn't the best. How the heck could we sell anything if nobody could find us? Then we looked at what was selling-costume jewelry. We started buying more stuff like cross necklaces, unisex earrings and leather bracelets and got rid of hair scrunchies, men's ties and dress socks. Hot Topic found a niche and its name was music-influenced accessories. Whether it was fingerless gloves like Billy Idol or glam metal bootstraps like Poison, music was definitely the driving force behind teen fashion. After our Westminster customers gave us a reality check, we packed our bags, moved to Montclair, California and rocked their mall with the first Hot Topic store to carry all music-influenced accessories for teens.

As business increased in 1990, adding apparel seemed like a no-brainer, and what better way than to add the ultimate music fan essential-rock tees. At the time, finding a rock tee wasn't easy. You had to buy 'em from catalogs, small record stores or at concerts. It was unheard of to see a rock tee at the mall, so imagine how our customers flipped when they were able to purchase Bauhaus, The Cure, TSOL and Depeche Mode T-shirts at Hot Topic. Not surprisingly, these 4 titles blew out, so more alternative bands were added. Within a year, we had about 50 different band titles, and rock-inspired clothing lines like Lip Service and Serious were a big chunk of the business. By the end of 1990, we had opened 3 more stores in California and by 1994, Hot Topic was 50% accessories and 50% apparel.

Anchor Blue

Phone: 702.435.0390
Address: 1300 West Sunset Rd. Henderson, NV 89014

Notes: Located at the Galleria at Sunset mall in Henderson, NV

From Wikipedia--

The Anchor Blue Clothing Company started in the mid-1970s as Miller's Outpost, which itself had originally been called Miller's Surplus. In the late '90s, the company changed its name to Anchor Blue because they had marketed, distributed, and sold their own line of jeans (for both men and women) and other clothing and accessories in their stores but wanted the chain's name to reflect their own high-quality name brand. Up until that time, Miller's Outpost (and subsequently Anchor Blue Clothing Company) were also selling brand names from some of their competitors in the apparel industry. Levi's, Menace, Mecca, and other name brands were also sold but later dropped when Anchor Blue decided to exclusively sell its own Anchor Blue fashion line. During the years that it was known as Miller's Outpost, the retail chain marketed and sold their own urbanwear line, Steel Wing, and their own activewear line. Those two lines have been discontinued. The current anchor blue logo consists of an interlocking "A" and "B", usually featured on most articles of clothing.

From Fredericks of Hollywood:

In 1946, Frederick came to Hollywood
Or shall we say, a man named Frederick Mellinger founded Frederick's of Hollywood and a legend was born. Mellinger believed that incredible lingerie could make a woman feel beautiful--from the inside out.

More than fifty years later, the company is still the leading trend setter in intimate apparel and has earned a renowned reputation for flattering women of all sizes with its sexy signature styles. Frederick's found success in creating lingerie that is sexy, fresh and sophisticated.

A new star on Hollywood Boulevard
When Frederick Mellinger set out to create lingerie that made women beautiful, suddenly unmentionables were worth mentioning. Introducing little black underthings to the United States may have raised a few eyebrows with the American public, but it was a smash with many a glamorous Hollywood actress--the ones women worshipped as their style icons.

After the opening of the first Frederick's of Hollywood store in 1947, the same Tinseltown stars who graced America's big screens and magazines came to rely on Frederick's for the sexy glamour that embodied the Hollywood lifestyle.

Address: 3200 Las Vegas Blvd. So. Las Vegas, NV 89109

Saks Fifth Avenue was the brainchild of Horace Saks and Bernard Gimbel, who operated independent retail stores on New York's 34th Street at Herald Square in the early 1900s. Their dream was to construct a unique specialty store that would become synonymous with fashionable, gracious living.

The combined financial input of these great merchant families led to the purchase of a site between 49th and 50th Streets on upper Fifth Avenue, then jointly occupied by the Democratic Club and the Buckingham Hotel. With the opening of its founders' "dream store" on September 15, 1924, Saks Fifth Avenue became the first large retail operation to locate in what was then primarily a residential district. By offering the finest quality men's and women's fashions, as well as an extraordinary program of customer services, Saks Fifth Avenue has become the byword for taste and elegance.
