Jones, a microbiologist, pioneered the process of cryogenic encapsulation...a scientific way of saying he used super-cold freezing methods to make little beads of ice cream. Not only were the ice cream beads delicious and fun to eat, Jones knew that flash-freezing the ice cream ingredients would lock in flavor and freshness. With those qualities established, Dippin' Dots were ready to take on the world!

Dairy Queen

Phone: 702.433.1273
Address: 1300 West Sunset Rd. Henderson, NV 89014

Notes: Located at the Galleria at Sunset mall in Henderson, NV

For more than 60 years, the Dairy Queen system's recipe for success has been simple. It's been a combination of hard-working people who own and operate restaurants and great-tasting food and tempting treats served in our establishments.

The founders of the Dairy Queen system were men and women who introduced a new kind of dessert treat and, in the process, developed the foundation of the franchising industry. The history of the Dairy Queen system is a story of a unique product that created an industry.

Our phenomenal story began with a 10 cent sale of a then unnamed product on August 4, 1938, in Kankakee, Illinois. A father and son in the mix plant business in Green River, Illinois, had been experimenting with a soft frozen dairy product for some time. They contacted Sherb Noble, a good friend and customer, who agreed to run the "all you can eat" trial sale at his walk-in ice cream store. Within two hours, he dished out more than 1,600 servings of the new dessert.

Back then, food franchising was all but unheard of, but the new product's potential made it a natural for such a system. When the United States entered World War II in December 1941, there were less than 10 Dairy Queen stores. However shortly after the war, the system took off at a pace virtually unrivaled before or since. With only 100 stores in 1947, it grew to 1,446 in 1950 and then to 2,600 in 1955. Today, the Dairy Queen system is one of the largest fast food systems in the world with more than 5,900 restaurants in the United States, Canada and 20 foreign countries.

Although much has changed in the world and in the Dairy Queen system through the years, one constant has remained: Dairy Queen stores are still, and always have been, the place to find Little League teams celebrating a victory, business people on their lunch break and families taking time out to enjoy great food and soft serve treats. And, success for the Dairy Queen system is as simple today as it was in 1940. Satisfied customers lead to successful restaurants. Each owner of our independently owned and operated establishments worldwide are committed to nothing less than the slogan "We Treat You Right."

For meat lovers, try the barbeque mix, it comes with barbeque meat, barbeque chicken and barbeque short ribs.

Trader Vics (Coming Soon)

Phone: 510.658.9722
Address: 3663 Las Vegas Blvd. Las Vegas, NV 89109

Notes: Located at the Miracle Mile Shops in the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino

From Trader Vic's--

Victor J. "Trader Vic" Bergeron packed more excitement, enjoyment and exotica into his 82 years than any other man.

It all started when Victor Jules Bergeron was a waiter at San Francisco's Fairmont Hotel and owned a grocery store on San Pablo Avenue in Oakland. His son - Victor, (Jr.) - grew up loving the food business, living with the family in an apartment above the store and helping out downstairs. A childhood accident cost him a leg, but left him with a penchant for telling colorful stories.

In 1932, with a nest egg of $700 and carpentry help from his wife's brothers - plus his mother's pot-bellied stove and oven - the ebullient Victor built a cozy pub across the street from the store and called it Hinky Dink's. His pungent vocabulary and ribald air made him a popular host, as did his potent tropical cocktail concoctions and delicious Americanized adaptations of Polynesian food.

Soon one of the most popular watering holes in Northern California's Bay Area, the place attracted sophisticated urbanites like writers Herb Caen and Lucius Beebe. By 1936, when Caen wittily wrote that the "best restaurant in San Francisco is in Oakland," Vic had become "The Trader" and Hinky Dink's had become "Trader Vic's," complete with a showpiece Chinese oven. Its South Pacific theme "intrigues everyone. You think of beaches and moonlight and pretty girls. It is complete escape," Vic said at the time. Among Trader Vic's more tantalizing legacies is the original Mai Tai, the bracingly refreshing rum cocktail he created at the restaurant in 1944 and introduced to the Hawaiian islands in the 1950s. Tahitian for "the very best," Mai Tai became the slogan for his entire operation.

In creating his new cocktail, Trader Vic employed what was becoming the ever-present hallmark of all his food and beverage recipes: a light touch, meant to enhance but never disguise nor overpower the fine original taste of his main ingredients. All of his recipes reflect the man's own personality: distinctive, lighthearted and memorable.

By 1946, the world had beaten a path to Vic's door, prompting Lucius Beebe to write in an introduction to "Trader Vic's Book of Food and Drink" published by Doubleday that year: "Trader Vic's is ... more than an Oakland institution. Its influence is as wide as the Pacific and as deep as a Myrtle Bank punch. Vic's trading post is long on atmosphere, and it is possible for the ambitious patron with a talent for chaos to get into more trouble with obsolete anchors, coiled hausers of boa-constrictor dimensions, fish nets, stuffed sharks... Hawaiian ceremonial costumes, tribal drums, boathooks and small bore cannon than the waiters can drag him out of in a week."

The Trader eventually opened 25 Polynesian-style restaurants around the world, and several Señor Pico Mexican restaurants. His son, Lynn Bergeron, eventually took over the restaurant operation and remains Chairman Emeritus of Trader Vic's Restaurant Company.

The Trader's eldest daughter, Jeanne B. Hittell, is retired, having served for many years on the Board of Directors and as Secretary/Treasurer of the Trader's companies. Daughter Yvonne E. Seely, is also retired after decades of dedication to charity work on behalf of Trader Vic's.

Pampas Churrascaria was created by a visionary businessman who had spent his youth in Brazil. Memorable meals in Churrascarias left an indelible imprint in his mind. The stunning vistas of southern Brazil, or Pampas were also a part of his childhood. The Pampas is the high plains of southern Brazil where the finest cattle graze on the unique grasses of the land. Fertile and abundant is this area, producing the finest the land can give. It seemed fitting that the name that would one day be emblazoned on the entry of his vision would be Pampas. After assembling an impressive group of successful businessmen and women as an advisory board, nearly three years of exhaustive research and development was necessary to open our first Churrascaria. Today the true experience of Brazil lives here at Pampas. The finest cuts of meat simply prepared and spit roasted to juicy perfection and choice vegetables at their peak of freshness grace the menu that is uniquely Pampas. The future is filled with visions for growth and expansion. Through the attention to detail and quality that has placed Pampas at the pinnacle of the service industry, this vision will become reality.

Nestle Tollhouse Cafe

Notes: Located at the Miracle Mile Shops in the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino

From Nestle Cafe--

Back in 1930, Mr. And Mrs. Wakefield purchased a Toll House located halfway between Boston and New Bedford, Massachusetts. Built in 1709; the house had long been a haven for weary travelers in search of food, drink and change of horses.

In keeping with the Toll House tradition, Mrs. Wakefield baked for guests at her Toll House Inn. As she improved upon old recipes, Mrs. Wakefield's incredible desserts began attracting people from all over New England.

While experimenting with the Butter Drop Do, a favorite Colonial cookie, Mrs. Wakefield cut a bar of Nestlé® Semi-Sweet Chocolate into tiny bits and added them to her cookie dough, expecting them to melt. Instead, the chocolate held its shape softening into a delicately creamy texture.

This delicious discovery was dubbed the Toll House Cookie.

Soon, everyone wanted to know how to make this widespread favorite. With Mrs. Wakefield's permissions, we put the recipe right on the wrapper of our Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar.
As the popularity of the Toll House Cookie continued to grow, we looked for ways to make it easier for people to bake. First we produced a special, scored chocolate bar that could easily be divided into small sections. Then, we began offering tiny pieces of chocolate in convenient, ready-to-use packages -- and that's how the first Real Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels were introduced.

Since they were first used in the Toll House Cookie, Nestlé Semi-Sweet Morsels have satisfied the chocolate cravings of millions. Today, they're used to make hundreds of delectable chocolate desserts all across America.

"In the early 1980's, David Briggs, Jr. began evaluating opportunities within the restaurant and bar business. Briggs quickly noted the dislike that most establishments had for frozen drinks, as they were complicated to mix, and they slowed down customer service. Frozen drinks that were available were of inferior quality, limited selection, and premium price. Everything was missing - selection, service, quality and value. Based on this information, Briggs set out to revolutionize the frozen drink business by developing a variety of premium frozen drink products that could be prepared in a consistent manner."

Dreyer's Ice Cream

From Wikipedia--

Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream Holdings, Inc., a division of Nestlé, is a United States-based producer of ice cream and frozen yogurt. Its products are marketed under the Dreyer's name in the western United States and Texas, and under the Edy's name in the rest of the U.S.

The company was founded in 1928 by William Dreyer and Joseph Edy in Oakland, California. Its shares were publicly traded on NASDAQ under the ticker symbol DRYR.

In June 2002 Nestlé acquired 67% of Dreyer's. In January 2006 it took full ownership of the company, thus becoming the world's biggest ice cream maker, with a 17.5% market share. Dreyer's has also acquired its own ice cream brands, including the Snelgrove's Ice Cream brand in Utah.

In 2004, Dreyer's began using a new churning processes called low-temperature extrusion. Unlike traditional churning methods, the ice cream does not need to be frozen once it is done churning. Since this freezing stage produces large ice crystals, which gives the ice cream a grainy texture, manufacturers would add milkfat to counterbalance the grainy texture. As this extra freezing process isn't necessary with low-temperature extrusion, the "slow churned" line of ice cream is labeled as containing two-thirds the calories and half the fat of "regular" ice cream. Other manufacturers (such as Häagen-Dazs) have already followed suit and introduced "light" varieties using low-temperature extrusion.

Tintoretto Bakery

Phone: 702.414.3777
Address: 3377 Las Vegas Blvd. So. Las Vegas, NV 89109

Notes: Located at the Grand Canal Shoppes

From The Las Vegas Sun--

Named for Tintoretto, a 16th-century Italian artist, the new Tintoretto bakery and cafe at the Canal Shoppes at the Venetian is already making its mark.

Open just one week this "international bakery with an Italian accent" is much more.

I arrived at 7:30 a.m. (Tintoretto opens at 8 a.m.) so that I could view the bakery cases before the early morning rush depleted them. Standing outside, looking in through the open doors was a reminder of the many similar cafes I've enjoyed in Italy. Not surprising since everything from the shutters on the windows to the tiles on the floors was crafted in Italy. The rich wood and glass showcases are other beautiful examples of fine Italian craftsmanship.

"We're not yet recovered from yesterday's run on the pastry selection," said Corporate Pastry Chef Francesco Santora. He is the third generation of Santora pastry masters. Tintoretto is part of the Five Star Restaurants group that also owns the adjacent Zeffirino Italian restaurant, Pizzeria de Enzo in the food court on the casino level and the commissary/bakery, where much of the prep work is done for both.

Santora was referring to the fact that very few pastries were on display. Instead, there was a remarkable selection of cookies (biscotti) of every description, as well as a gorgeous selection of crusty breads and rolls. The pastry selection usually includes: Napoleons, eclairs, custard-filled cream puffs, cannoli, Sacher torte, tiramisu, exotic fruit tarts, chocolate mousse and fruit mousses, apple cheesecake and much more.

Mini-size pastries are sold by the pound ($12.50). All of the cookies are sold by the pound (from $13.50). At least 40 varieties are available every day. It's not my usual habit to have cookies for breakfast, but I did taste a scrumptious biscottino marzapane al caffe. This complex mouthful was made of coffee-flavored marzipan atop a tiny pecan Florentine cookie. I also tasted the tiramisu. It's a close match to the classic, only lighter in taste (not calories).

Tintoretto considers itself an international bakery, so don't be too surprised to find hamentashen and rugelach and Black Forest cake and Sacher torte among the specialties.

All of the baked goods are available to eat in or take out. According to Santora, one of the most popular pastries is the individual apple-topped, New York-style cheesecake.

At the back of the bakery there is a small dining section, or dine outside on the attractive patio that joins Tintoretto and Seffirino's.

At breakfast there are omelettes ($3.95-$6.95), fried eggs served with potatoes, and sides of bacon, sausage or fried potatoes ($2). All egg dishes include the freshly-baked breads.

Lattes, espresso, cappuccino, orange juice and other beverages are offered. Breakfast hours are 8-11 a.m.

The all-day menu is in effect from noon-11:30 p.m. featuring salads ($6.95-$9.95), pasta ($7.95-$8.95), panini -- Italian sandwiches ($7.50-$9.95) and pizzas and focaccia ($7.95-$10.95).

A small selection of wines is offered by the glass ($4-$5) or bottle ($16-$20).

Santora will soon be baking a number of Easter specialties, including: a wheat pie created by the master that has a soft barley filling; "mostaccioli rococo," very ornate cookies dating back centuries; honey biscuits; panne de Pasquada; and other Easter classics. Call Tintoretto for additional information.

Tintoretto has a good selection of pasta, coffee beans, candies and gift items. The peach, pear and apricot nectars by Yoga sold in six-packs are sublime. There's a whole wall devoted to foodstuff and gifts. A terrific small gift is the black and white dice box filled with three cookies ($2.50). Pastora makes beautiful baskets of flavored nougat. One of these edible baskets filled with cookies or chocolate-coated truffles would please any sweet tooth.

An elegant bar at the entrance serves aperitifs, beer and wine, cordials, espresso and granita (flavored ices.)

I lost the battle trying to resist the many tempters and finished my tasting at home. Don't miss the raisin bread. I can't wait to make French toast from this tasty loaf.

Review from Yelp.com--

This is THE place to get your breakfast on in Vegas. Screw the 'all you can eat' buffets, those are good if you have the time & the room in your stomach. But, this little Jewish deli (run by Asians) serves it up hangover style! $5 for an egg, bacon & cheese sammie - on kaiser roll or bagel, with your choice of beverage. They also do the standard breakfast thing, as does the cafe next to it, but they change $9! The service is really slow for a place that's just a to go cafe, which makes it hard when you are swooning and in need of caffeine and grease. It is what hits the spot though for sure!

Grand Lux Cafe

Phone: 702.414.3888
Address: 3377 Las Vegas Blvd. So. Las Vegas, NV 89109

Notes: Located at the Grand Canal Shoppes

From Grand Lux Cafe--

Pure Inspiration.

The idea for Grand Lux Cafe came to life when The Venetian Resort, Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas asked David Overton, Founder of The Cheesecake Factory Restaurants, to create an upscale casual restaurant concept for their property.

Excited by the proposal and the opulent "Venetian" theme, Mr. Overton traveled to Europe to study Italian trattorias, French bistros, and the grand cafes and pastry shops of Vienna. This culinary tour through Europe, focused on food, architecture, décor and design, provided the inspiration for what the restaurant was destined to become.

Blending the grandeur and luxury of European cafes with the sensibilities and spirit of an all-American restaurant, "Grand Lux Cafe" was born. Today, with locations in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas and Houston, Grand Lux Cafe is proud to offer our guests unique, casual global cuisine in an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere.

Pure Indulgence.

Grand Lux Cafe's eclectic menu offers extraordinary variety and selection, with flavor profiles ranging from Thai, Malaysian and Caribbean, to classic American and European specialties. With every item prepared fresh to order in our exhibition-style kitchen, the focus remains on providing guests with the finest, freshest foods available.

Served in generous portions - perfect for sharing - menu selections include Specialty Appetizers, Oven Baked Rustic Pizzas, Burgers and Sandwiches, Salads, Pasta Dishes, Oven, Broiler and Grill Specialties, and Certified Angus Beef Steaks.

Also offered is an impressive selection of unusual and creative Specialty Cocktails and Martinis, as well as an array of Beer, Wine and After Dinner Drinks.

Perhaps most "grand" of all is the on-premise bakery found at each Grand Lux Cafe. Recognizing that the very best desserts are those that are baked to order, this delicious European tradition was brought back to the States and is a hallmark of the Grand Lux Cafe experience. From Molten Chocolate Cake and New Orleans Beignets to Warm Rustic Apple Pie and Warm Homemade Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies, our special baked to order desserts add a fabulous finish to any meal.

Lunch Specials are served daily until 5:00 p.m., and special Breakfast selections are served Saturdays and Sundays until 2:00 p.m. For our guests' convenience in today's busy world, we will happily package any item from our dining room menu for take out. We also offer all of our delicious baked goods at the bakery counter to enjoy at home.

Pure Splendor.
Grand Lux Cafe defines a new category in dining, that of the super upscale casual restaurant. Taking design and style themes from the Old World cafes and bistros of Europe, Grand Lux Cafe provides our guests with an escape from the ordinary.

The impact is immediate upon walking through the front doors - elaborate design, sumptuous fabrics and textures, and custom artisan-created details abound. Awash in a color scheme reminiscent of a Venetian carnival, Grand Lux Cafe is a feast for the eyes.

All-marble floors and tabletops, hand-blown glass fixtures, and intricate mosaics add to the lavish interior. Motifs borrowing from the great artists of the "grand cafe" era envelop the dining area, bringing warmth and personality to the space.

Designed for grandeur but never forgetting comfort, the inviting dining rooms are perfect for a cozy party of two or a festive party of twenty. Private dining facilities for parties and events also are available at our Las Vegas and Chicago locations.

We welcome you to Grand Lux Cafe.

Enjoy your meal amidst the sculpted steel and wrought-iron gates, colorful Mexican tiles and authentic Mexican folk art.

Canaletto

Phone: 702.733.0070
Address: 3377 Las Vegas Blvd. So. Las Vegas, NV 89109

Notes: Located at the Grand Canal Shoppes

From Vegas.com--

A star among the many restaurant options at The Venetian, Canaletto is actually a unique one-of-a-kind concept from the good folks at Il Fornaio, the famous restaurant chain that began as a bakery in 1981.

As with so many restaurants in Europe, the windows are filled with a fresh seafood display to entice you with your eyes first, and then your stomach. There's a large, "outdoor" dining area, which lies under the perennial dusk ceiling of St. Mark's. These tables could arguably be the most popular for their proximity to the street scene. Who doesn't like sipping a glass of Prosecco (Italian champagne) while listening to an aria being sung from the balcony above you, or having a harlequin on stilts amuse you with his tomfoolery?

Don't, however, discount the smaller, more intimate dining rooms inside and upstairs. The second level rooms are generally reserved for banquets and larger groups. If you're inquisitive, you might want to pop upstairs to check out the views from above.

Because of the romantic nature of the Venetian and the Grand Canals, it's quite common to see a just-married bride and groom strolling around, either as an in-love pair of swooning doves or with their entourage in tow. Manager Matthew Galli said that it's a near-daily occurrence for Canaletto to host a wedding party--and he takes it as a compliment that the newlyweds would choose his restaurant as the place to share their first meal together.

The menu at Canaletto, currently under the direction of Chef Bruno Amato, has been designed to appeal to all tastes and budgets. It's entirely possible to stop in to share a pizza and a glass of wine, or to indulge yourself in three or four courses and make a night of it.

The menu remains the same throughout the day, with lunch and dinner specials, of course. An easy way to start your meal would be with the crostini, made with polenta that has been topped with provolone cheese and six different toppings, including porcini mushrooms with white truffle oil, spicy sausage and smoked salmon. Or you could also opt for a delicious seafood gratinée of scallops and shrimp baked with artichokes, potatoes and white wine.

For something lighter, try the pear salad with mixed greens, grilled pears, grapes, gorgonzola and toasted pecans. It's large enough to even be a very light luncheon option.

Pizzas are terrific at Canaletto: thin-crusted, naturally, with simple, fresh toppings. If you can take a few more calories, order the always-rich, always-flavorful risotto. Canaletto offers five choices, from shrimp and crab to asparagus with chicken.

For a decadent pasta choice, look no further than the spaghettini with butterflied Maine lobster. The half-crustacean arrives topped with a tomato, garlic and brandy sauce. (Be sure to check as the other diners look on you with envy).

Entrées include a roast chicken as good as any Nana could conjure up; veal scallopine, finished with Prosecco; bone-in prime rib-eye and more than a half-dozen seafood choices. A lazy afternoon could easily be spent noshing on the seafood platter for two, with oysters, shrimp, crab and lobster.

What? You're not full yet? Then go for the zabaglione with fresh berries, or maybe just some Italian ice cream.

What makes a simple lunchtime sandwich cost $8? The answer may depend on whom you ask.

The well-turned-out noshers at downtown's NM Cafe might answer with praise for the hand-carved, house-roasted meats, gourmet garnishes and fresh artisanal breads. Ask a more frugal diner (the sort you might see standing in line at the nearby Subway or Schlotzsky's) and the answer will probably center on the bold Neiman Marcus logo on the paper napkins that accompany said sandwich.

The Teavana dream began with an idea that people could enjoy tea in a place that was part Tea Bar, Part Tea Emporium. We wanted to introduce people to the aromas, textures, and beneficial qualities of loose leaf teas, while enlightening them with the history and variety of each tea. After considerable research of many teas, only those with rich flavors, and superior health benefits were selected. Then in 1997 we opened our first teahouse in Atlanta, Georgia. The name Teavana was created to mean "a heaven of tea"; this meant to describe the experience each customer has with our tea, and our staff. And so as our company grows, the fairy tale of East meets West continues enriching the lives of our customers by encouraging a healthy, alternative lifestyle.

"Great Wraps was founded on a solid business plan and a brilliant idea for
the future."
- Bond's Top 50 Food Franchises

Since the beginning (way back in the early 80's!) we've been dazzling the taste buds of our customers with the unexpected. We built a loyal following of adventurous folks who refused to follow the masses to all those boring fast food outlets. They were looking for something special.....something unique, tasty and healthy. Not only did they find it, they loved it! Customers returned talking about how they craved our food so much - they simply HAD to return. We may have discovered "The NEW American Sandwich" but it's our customers that keep us revolutionizing American quick-serve food.

In the past several years, we wowed 'em again with our original line of Hot Subs and Grilled Flatbread Sandwiches. The recipes are unlike anything you'd find in a generic sub shop. And, you customize your sandwich to fit your taste. A little more of this, forget about that, grill it a little longer, keep it cold...you gotta love our freedom of choice. Every customer is unique, and we want to make sure they get exactly what they want.

We took it a step further when we introduced the Great Wraps Spice Bar. Custom spice our famous Idaho Kurly Q Fries with any combination of our six specially blended spices. Feeling sassy? Try our Hellacious Jalapeño. Looking for some down-home comfort? Shake in our Loaded Baked Potato spice.

At Great Wraps, it's all about YOU, and celebrating YOUR taste. We're the NEW American Sandwich for the NEW American Attitude.

From Vegas.com review--

"A true cigar aficionado's paradise, Casa Fuente is the realization of one family's dream -- the first licensed store from the Arturo Fuente brand of cigars. More than just a cigar shop or a bar, Casa Fuente carves an intimate corner between the oldest and newest wings of the Forum Shops at Caesars.

The bar features tropical cocktails, wine and cognac, all well suited to accompany Casa Fuente's vast cigar selection. Drinks and cigars can be ordered from the same menu, with equal attention paid to both.

Casa Fuente's rich, Cuban-influenced interior is inviting -- all warm browns, reds and mustards. Mosaic tile graces the floors, and picture murals of the Fuente family surround the bar. The massive walk-in humidor features some of the world's finest cigars, and all sorts of accessories -- from lighters to books -- are available in the store. A patio outside the store offers additional seating and a respite from the fast pace of the mall as well.

Aside from carrying the signature, handcrafted Fuente cigars from the Dominican Republic, an exclusive premium brand, Casa Fuente, is being made exclusively for the new cigar bar."
