Description:

From LasVegas.com--

Roseanne Barr is probably one of America's most well-known female comics.

She started out doing stand-up in comedy clubs, and after her first appearance on "The Tonight Show," she was offered a series by HBO called "The Roseanne Barr Show." The show didn't last long, but a year later, in 1988, Roseanne became a household name with her hit network sitcom "Roseanne."

The show dealt with real-life issues in a lower-middle-class working family and within a year overtook "The Cosby Show" as the No. 1 show on television. It ran for nine seasons and won four Emmys, two Golden Globes, six People's Choice Awards, and many other accolades.

Immediately after "Roseanne" finished its run in 1997, Roseanne left for New York to portray The Wicked Witch of the West in the Madison Square Garden production of "The Wizard of Oz." In a six-week run, the show sold more than 300,000 tickets - more than any other show on Broadway that year. Apart from making her presence known on stage, Roseanne also established herself as a successful author with the release of two best-selling books "Roseanne: My Life as a Woman" and "My Lives."

The comedian is always working on new children's songs and videos for her family-run production company Moon and High Tide Studio. "Rockin' with Roseanne," her first DVD for children was released in February 2006.

In 2006 she also appeared in her own HBO comedy special "Roseanne Barr: Blonde and Bitchin'."
