Police and Public Safety (Please Step Away From the Car)
We have the finest police department in the world located right here in Las Vegas. Our cops have to deal with a continually changing crowd of people from every corner of the globe. They are trained to handle our crowds of tourist so when you are vacationing in Las Vegas just relax, you are quite safe. All of the hotels have large in-house security departments staffed with well trained security personnel constantly monitoring the property and guest. The large properties have thousands of surveillance cameras keeping an electronic eye trained on the surroundings. All of this is in place to insure that visitors and guests have a good time in the safest possible atmosphere.
Many of our visitors erroneously believe that everything is legal in Las Vegas and this just isn’t so. If it is illegal at home it is probably illegal in Las Vegas. Even though Las Vegas often fosters that “wild west persona” we have laws and rules just like every other community in America. Nevada has some of the toughest drug laws in the nation with most all being some degree of a felony. Driving under the influence of anything is absolutely prohibited and strictly enforced. Even though alcohol is given away in most casinos, if you come to Vegas and drink and drive you will quickly find yourself in jail and facing thousands of dollars in fines. Another misconception is the legality of prostitution. It is not legal in Las Vegas. The only legal brothels in Nevada are located in Nye County, a two hour drive away. Juveniles under the age of eighteen must abide by the midnight curfew on the Las Vegas strip and if caught out without adult supervision they will be detained. Due to the unusually high rate of fatal auto/pedestrian accidents jaywalking laws are enforced. Always use crosswalks and a liberal helping of caution when crossing a roadway, never cross against the light or in the middle of the block, and assume some of the drivers don’t see you and may not stop.
While you are enjoying the sights, sounds and entertainment of Las Vegas you will notice many police patrols on foot, horseback, riding bicycles, cruising in cars and flying helicopters overhead watching over our guest and immediately responding and containing any problem. Las Vegas is dedicated to your safety, security and well being.
